Server minimizes multi-projector display alignment time.

March 20, 2008 - Camera-based solution, Sol(TM) Server 1.2, automatically corrects geometric distortion, intensity, and color variation that result from using multiple overlapping projectors. It works with flat, n-gons, cylindrical, or spherical displays and features robotic pan-tilt option that, when attached, provides support for multiple camera vantage points. Along with soft-edge and localized blending capabilities, features include precision scene alignment and elimination of projector overspray.

Enhanced Mersive Sol(TM) Server Offers More Flexibility and Dramatically Decreases Display Alignment Time

LEXINGTON, KY, March 13, 2008 - Mersive Technologies (http://www.mersive.com) today launched the Sol(TM) Server 1.2, an enhanced automatic solution for ultra definition displays that cuts alignment time in half and offers users a variety of new options such as a robotic pan-tilt, soft-edge blending and a precision scene alignment feature. An emerging display technology company, Mersive is redefining the ease with which ultra resolution, multi-projector displays can be designed, configured and maintained.

Mersive Sol(TM) Server 1.2 is a camera-based solution for automatically aligning multi-projector display systems. The solution provides correction of geometric distortion, intensity and color variation that result from using multiple overlapping projectors. Displays utilizing the Sol Server can be flat, n-gons, cylindrical or spherical.

A key option with this new release is a robotic pan-tilt unit, which-when attached to the Sol Server-provides support for multiple camera vantage points needed to align multiple projectors covering domes, cylinders and other very wide field of view displays. Other benefits of the new software features are precision scene alignment with the display to a fraction of an arc-minute; the elimination of projector "overspray" through a simple interactive interface; and the addition of localized blending capabilities that enhance faceted displays such as octagon-shaped ones and those found in many fast-jet trainers. Users also now have the option to maximize alignment accuracy for their display. They can choose between large, medium and small calibration patterns and create backups of successful alignment runs that can be reloaded at a later date without re-calibrating.

An already efficient alternative to the labor intensive procedure of manual alignment of multi-projector display systems, this latest release of the Mersive Sol Server further reduces processing time. With Mersive's automatic alignment solution, complex displays such as domes and octagons are pixel-perfect in minutes rather than the hours, days or weeks previously required.

"Mersive is committed to delivering innovative, cost-efficient display alignment solutions that simplify and enhance the experience for content providers and other users," says Randall Stevens, president, CEO of Mersive Technologies. "The Sol(TM) Server 1.2 affords users more flexibility and expedites the alignment process."

Following are new features of the Sol Server 1.2.

o SolTilt - is a robotic platform allowing the camera attached to a Sol Server to capture images from multiple vantage points. It is particularly helpful for wide field-of-view displays with cylindrical or spherical surfaces. The Sol Server interface allows users to preview and "record" Pan-Tilt positions, which are then automatically recalled during the alignment process.

o SolAlign - is used to adjust the orientation of a scene so that it is aligned to a desired location/orientation in the world. SolAlign uses a test pattern consisting of a gridded sphere with degree markings to project across the display. To adjust the orientation of the sphere on the display, the user can manipulate a set of X,Y,Z angle controls or directly adjust the sphere by dragging it to the desired orientation. When running an application, the orientation saved from SolAlign is automatically composed into the rendering pipeline so that the application rendered onto the display reflects the adjustment in orientation.

o SolMask - allows users to digitally "mask" or block data from reaching a projection area. This feature is useful for eliminating projector
"overspray" or minimizing overlap regions. It is ideal for complex surfaces such as spheres and domes where there is abundant overlap in specific areas of the display. It also allows users to drag multiple vertex points within a projector boundary to define the area of projection.

o SolBlend - supports overlap regions on multi-faceted displays such as octagons and decagons. The feature provides localized blending capabilities along the edges defined by SolMask.

About Mersive Technologies

Mersive Technologies is a display technology company that redefines the ease with which ultra resolution, multi-projector displays can be designed, configured and maintained. A leader in the creation of ultra definition (UD) displays with resolutions greater than high definition (HD) devices, Mersive provides a cost-effective, true auto-alignment solution capable of merging any number of projectors into a seamless display of almost any size, shape and resolution. Technology once considered only practical for select high capital industries is now being made available by Mersive for a range of applications from simulation and training to museum displays and digital signage. Mersive is privately held and venture funded. Its clients include the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force as well as a number of museums and academic labs.
