Un-Cooled Coaxial Lasers operate in -40 to +80°C range.

March 5, 2008 - Offering solution for 1,310 nm linear fiber optic links, 1933 DFB laser series maintains performance over case temperature range of -40 to +80°C without requiring additional cooling. Models 1933F and 1933R feature forward and return path laser solutions for HFC plants, and model 1933W provides solution for wireless networks. Each laser diode device is packaged in hermetic assembly with monitor photodiode and isolator for flexible integration into various transmitter configurations.

EMCORE Announces New Line of Un-Cooled Coaxial Lasers

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Feb. 27 -- EMCORE Corporation (NASDAQ:EMKR), a leading provider of compound semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the broadband, fiber optic, satellite and terrestrial solar power markets, is announcing the introduction of a new line of un-cooled coaxial DFB lasers.

EMCORE's 1933 DFB laser family offers a low cost solution for 1310nm linear fiber optic links. With an innovative design, the 1933 series requires no additional cooling since it can maintain performance even with case temperatures ranging from -40 degrees C to +80 degrees C. The 1933 also features exceptionally high slope efficiency and linearity even with optical output powers up to 12dBm.

The 1933 DFB laser builds upon EMCORE's long history of high performance, industry leading designs for cable television, wireless, and high-speed digital applications. The laser diode devices are packaged in a compact hermetic assembly together with a monitor photodiode and isolator, for flexible integration into various transmitter configurations. Combining the lower cost of a coaxial package with EMCORE's best in class linear optical devices creates a significant advantage in cost and performance over cooled laser solutions by minimizing the amount of stability control circuitry required to maintain performance over wide temperature ranges.

"The 1933 family of DFB lasers expands EMCORE's discrete laser product offering. By leveraging our vertical integration and technical heritage in linear fiber optics, we can now offer a low-cost solution to meet today's market demands," said Gyo Shinozaki, Director of Marketing for EMCORE Broadband.

The 1933F and 1933R feature forward and return path laser solutions for HFC plants, and the 1933W provides a competitive solution for wireless networks. These market segments are expected to grow as operators continue to add more interactive services. EMCORE sees applications throughout North America, Asia Pacific and Europe in both segments. All variants of the 1933 family are sampling today, and high volume production is being readied at EMCORE's Langfang manufacturing facility, which is expected to come on line in May 2008.
