WEST CALDWELL, N.J., Feb. 4 -- Ricoh Americas Corporation, the leading provider of digital office equipment, today introduced the Aficio MP 4000B/MP 4000 and MP 5000B/MP 5000 Digital Imaging Systems. Ideal for mid to large-sized workgroups, the Aficio MP 4000B/MP 4000 and MP 5000B/MP 5000 offer fast speeds, greater paper capacity and worry-free security that allow customers to expand their digital imaging resources and capabilities without expending their budget. The MP 4000/MP 5000 models offer the added benefit of standard printing, and black & white and color scanning to deliver exceptional performance and value.
The Aficio MP 4000B/MP 4000 and MP 5000B/MP 5000 incorporate all of the strong and innovative features of their predecessor models (the Aficio MP 3500/MP 4500 Series), and provide even more security. Users can maximize production with output speeds of up to 50 pages per minute, conserve IT resources with advanced network black & white printing and monitoring capabilities, and save time and money with Super G3 and IP Faxing.
Advanced security features are an integral part of the Aficio MP 4000B/MP 4000 and MP 5000B/MP 5000's design. Access to system functions can be protected with Windows/LDAP/Kerberos authentication and temporary data stored on the hard drive can be protected with the optional DataOverwriteSecurity System, which overwrites latent copy, print, scan, fax and Document Server data.
The Aficio MP 4000B/MP 4000 and MP 5000B/MP 5000 manage documents efficiently and reduce the associated distribution costs. Scan-to-E-mail allows users the ability to scan documents and instantly e-mail them anywhere in the world, reducing postage and eliminating overnight delivery costs. Additionally, Scan-to-Folder converts paper copies to electronic files and stores them in a network folder allowing for easy retrieval, and Scan-to-URL stores documents on the hard disk drive, which recipients can then view and download the files from any web browser.
Additional new features of the Aficio MP 4000B/MP 4000 and MP 5000B/MP 5000 include a full-color 8.5 inch Video Graphics Array (VGA) control panel that offers animated guidance for ease of use. The paper trays have been expanded to hold up to 4,400 sheets and the paper weight has been increased to 45 lb., enabling more robust production to take place. Professional-grade documents can be produced in a snap with crisp 600 dpi resolution, 256 gray scale levels and three different finishing options, such as booklets, stapling and hole-punching, that help customers to make an excellent first impression.
Other features of the Aficio MP 4000B/MP 4000 and MP 5000B/MP 5000 include:
-- Web SmartDevice Monitor that allows centralized configuration, monitoring and management of multiple connected Ricoh devices.
-- Auto E-mail Notification which sends a report to a designated e-mail address when the machine is not operating at optimum performance levels, maximizing uptime.
-- PDF Direct Print allows users to print PDFs quickly without opening an application and slowing down the network.
-- Embedded Software Architecture -- an innovative JAVA J2ME-Compatible Software that allows for the development of key applications to enhance workflow.
-- @Remote Intelligent Management System automatically places a detailed request for service when needed, eliminating the need for users to initiate service calls, which reduces total cost of ownership.

The Aficio MP 4000 and MP 5000 come standard with printing, copying and black & white and color scanning capabilities out of the box in two pre- configured models -- the SP and SPF (the SPF includes faxing capabilities). With the faxing features, documents can be sent at a quick two seconds per page with standard JBIG on up to three analog lines via the Super G3 modem. LAN fax enables users to save time and paper by sending faxes right from their desktop.
The Aficio MP 4000B and MP 5000B come with copying capabilities and have a flexible upgrade path that allows features to be added as users' document management needs change over time. A low-cost network printer can be added with Ricoh's Refined Print Command Stream (RPCS) printer option. To upgrade further, users can add Printer Enhance and get PCL printing and document storage capabilities. And if scanning becomes a necessary function, the Scanner Enhance Option can be added for black & white scanning.
The Aficio MP 4000B/SP/SPF are available at retail prices of $8,890/$10,620/$11,715 respectively and the Aficio MP 5000B/SP/SPF retail at $11,050/$12,780 & $13,875 respectively.
