Albemarle Expands Possibilities for Furniture Fire Safety
New Hal-Free ANTIBLAZE® Flame Retardant Protects Flexible Foams at Lower Loadings
BATON ROUGE, La., Jan. 24 / / -- Flexible foam producers and users now have an extremely effective and more environmentally appealing alternative for flame retarding the foams used in furniture and automobile seats, thanks to an innovation from the worldwide leader in flame retardants, Albemarle Corporation (NYSE:ALB).
Albemarle has introduced ANTIBLAZE® 117HF, a new, halogen-free flame retardant designed to provide a safe and highly effective alternative to halogen-based flame retardants in flexible furniture and automotive foams. Additional benefits of ANTIBLAZE 117HF flame retardant are its high efficiency - achieving the same reliable protection as existing flame retardants with up to 30 percent less product - and excellent non-scorching performance.
The human health and environmental profile of ANTIBLAZE 117HF flame retardant has been tested extensively. Using U.S. Environmental Protection Agency criteria, the product also has been found to be non-persistent and non- bioaccumulative.
"As a socially responsible producer of flame retardants, we recognize the need for foam and furniture makers to offer products that ensure consumers the highest level of safety and value," said Steve LeVan, Albemarle division vice president of flame retardants.
"Our new ANTIBLAZE 117HF flame retardant lets foam makers and end-users achieve exceptional fire safety and material performance, as well as a strong health, safety and environmental profile, which is consistent with our mission to provide innovative and sustainable products to the marketplace," LeVan said.
Critical fire safety performance; lower usage levels; and an excellent health, safety and environmental profile, make ANTIBLAZE 117HF flame retardant an ideal solution for foam makers.
ANTIBLAZE 117HF flame retardant is produced at Albemarle's Orangeburg, S.C. facility and is now commercially available.
