Toshiba Teli Remote Head 5MP Camera with Foveon X3 Sensor Suited for Endoscopy, Microscopy, Chip Monitoring

IRVINE, CA, January 15, 2008 -- Bringing the latest image sensor technology to endoscopy, microscopy and industrial vision, Toshiba Teli America, Inc. has unveiled its CSF5M7C3L18NR, an advanced remote-head FireWire B camera that utilizes the Foveon X3 layered CMOS sensor containing 5.0 million photodetectors, each responsive to full color spectrum.

The Foveon sensor "stacks" color pixels on top of one another, increasing the sampling density in the image plane. Unlike traditional color filter mosaic sensors (3CCD) where image data must be estimated, the Foveon sensor detects red, green, and blue light at each pixel, resulting in perfect color registration and better sharpness in luminanace and chrominance, as well as freedom from color aliasing artifacts.

The CSF5M7C3L18NR adds flexibility and power to color-based microscopy and other imaging applications with its ultra-compact 29mm remote head, making it simple to mount in space restricted environments. It is connected to the control unit with a flexible cable that can extend up to three meters. The head features a C-mount, allowing it to use a wide selection of optics and couplers.

Frame rates and image sizes can be easily modified to meet application needs. For example, at full 1400 x 1000 resolution the camera offers 7 frames-per-second (FPS), and at 700 x 500 it delivers 25 FPS. Binning (2 x 2) improves the frame rate further while heightening sensitivity. The camera also does not use a prism, so shading or optical distortion problems are eliminated.

The CSF5M7C3L18NR is compatible with FireWire B (IEEE1394.b-2002) components for easier, more cost effective integration and maximum transfer rate of 800Mbps. Other spec-grade performance features include manual control gain, color correction, random trigger shutter, scalable video, white balance and detail enhancer.

Included with the camera, the Toshiba Teli SDK supports Coreco® and Matrox® application software.
