Omron's SX51 TOSA and ROSA For HDV Demonstrated at CES

SX51 TOSA and ROSA for the High-Definition Video Market

Las Vegas, NV January 7th 2008 - Omron announced today a demonstration of the P1TX4C-SX51 Transmitter Optical Subassembly (TOSA) and the P1RX4C-SX51 Receiver Optical Subassembly (ROSA) to serve the high-definition video market. The products are on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the Gefen booth (South 1, Booth# 20344).

Omron Electronic Components' SX51 TOSA and SX51 ROSA pair is the ideal solution in addressing the long-distance data transfer challenges inherent in the bandwidth-intensive, high-speed data applications associated with HDMI rev1.3 compliant high-definition video and audio formats.

"Omron has been leading the way towards the adoption of fiber optics in the video transmission space for some time with our unidirectional SX4 OSA" said Brian Peters, President of Omron's networking products subsidiary. "The new SX51, with its bidirectional CWDM architecture, is now the premiere optic for HDCP video transmission. Our customers can reap the rewards of a decade of innovative optics design by using SX51. By enabling a single link that carries bi-directional communication in parallel to the high-speed data, the SX51 makes upgrading equipment to HDMI 1.3, Display Port, and high-definition protocols significantly easier.
Martin Smith, Omron Product Manager for the SX51 added "The SX51 brings a couple of significant advantages to our customers in the HDMI and DVI extender market. By designing around Omron's OSAs, our customers can use any multimode fiber terminated with standard SC connectors, ranging from very thin bare fiber to ruggedized patch fiber which can be pulled through conduit. No other single-fiber, HDMI solution exists on the market with this flexibility. Perhaps more important to our customer base is that Omron will be selling the OSAs as a component solution only. In other words, we don't compete with our customers by selling video extenders direct to the consumer. Our job as a component supplier is to support our customers' designs and enable them to make best-in-class long reach HD video solutions."

The capacious throughput of the SX51 is designed to fully support HDMI rev1.3 requirements. HDMI rev1.3 specifications allow for advanced Deep Color support, which utilizes up to 16 bits per pixel effectively providing a dynamic spectrum of colors ranging in the billions of shades, as well as for true lossless audio playback through Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD audio formats. Also, the incorporation of bi-directional channels provides a level of control unique to the SX family of OSAs. This additional aspect of flexibility positions the SX51 as an attractive alternative for solutions in applications such as broadcast, in-flight entertainment or any video / data application where bi-directional communication along a common optical fiber is desirable.
