Receptacles feature weather-resistant design.

January 9, 2008 - Weather-Resistant Receptacles suit residential and commercial applications subject to 2008 National Electrical CodeŽ (NEC) requirements, where all non-locking 15 and 20 A, 125 and 250 V receptacles installed in wet and damp locations must be weather-resistant. Products are cULus-listed and include duplex, decorator, and specification grade receptacles in commercial and residential versions. Residential varieties are tamper-resistant.

P&S Weather-Resistant Receptacles are Durable and Reliable in Challenging Environments

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Dec. 21, 2007) - Pass & Seymour/Legrand (P&S), a leading manufacturer of electrical wiring devices and home systems, introduces its Weather-Resistant Receptacles, required in specified residential and commercial applications by the 2008 National Electrical CodeŽ (NEC). The Code requires all non-locking 15 and 20 ampere, 125- and 250-volt receptacles installed in wet and damp locations to be weather-resistant receptacles.

Cracked covers or corrosion can cause premature receptacle failure in challenging environments, and P&S Weather-Resistant Receptacles are built to perform in such conditions. The devices suit a variety of applications including outdoors, porches, under canopies, wash down areas, some warehouses and more.

All receptacles are cULus listed, and they're listed to the weather-resistant supplement of UL498, meeting demanding ULŽ requirements including:
o Ultraviolet light exposure test
o Cold impact test
o Accelerated aging test
o Stringent material requirements for current carrying parts, wire binding screws and mounting straps to ensure superior corrosion resistance

"The Weather-Resistant Receptacles are designed to last wherever extra durability is needed," said Tom Roy, residential product manager at P&S.

Receptacles installed in wet and damp locations still require weatherproof covers. The product line includes a variety of duplex, decorator and specification grade receptacles in commercial and residential versions. The residential varieties are also Tamper-Resistant, letting plugs in while preventing children from inserting keys and other objects. The Tamper-Resistant design is also required in residential installations by the 2008 NEC.
