Loop-Powered Ultrasonic Sensors offer internal calculation.

January 7, 2008 - With microprocessor control, LPU-2428 Ultrasonic Level Sensors internally perform volume, flow, and totalization calculations. IP65-rated products provide 1-25 ft detection range and have built-in formulas for various flumes and weirs. Products can also be used to determine distance and level, and equation-based calculations are also possible. With output range-dependant response times from 0.6-3 sec, sensors deliver 0.1 in. resolution and accuracy of ±0.25% of detected range.

New 4-20 mA Loop Powered Ultrasonic Sensors Internally Calculate Flow Rates and Volume

LOGAN, UT - Automation Products Group, Inc. (APG) introduces LPU-2428 Loop Powered Ultrasonic Level Sensors with microprocessor control to internally perform volume, flow, and totalization calculations. These IP65 rated sensors provide a 1 to 25 ft. (0.3 to 7.62 m) detection range. They are specifically designed for liquid flow-rate and volume measurement applications, and are also a good solution for determining distance and level.

For determining flow rates, formulas for a variety of flumes and weirs are built into the sensors. These include Parshall flumes, cut-throat flumes, California-pipe weirs, rectangular weirs, and v-notch weirs. Equation-based calculations are also possible. LPU-2428 sensors provide an output directly proportional to the flow rate, and users can select flow rate units of per second, per minute, per hour, or per day. Standard volume units include cubic feet, millions of cubic feet, gallons, cubic meters, or liters. For volume measurement, the sensors have built-in formulas for most industry-standard tank shapes.

LPU-2428 sensors feature a rugged PVDF (Kynar) transducer housing and PC/PET chemical resistant sensor housing, and are easy to install using industry standard 2-inch NPT fittings. These sensors can operate in temperatures from -40 to 140ºF (-40 to 60ºC) and deliver 0.1 in. (2.5 mm) resolution with accuracy of ± 0.25% of the detected range, and response time of 0.6 to 3 seconds depending on the output range.

The LPU-2428 features internal temperature compensation to automatically account for changes in ambient temperature, as well as filtering options to account for other variables such as waves on a liquid or tank irregularities. They are unaffected by the color/translucency, dielectric constant, specific gravity or viscosity of the target. Internal parameters are setup using a remote keypad & display unit.

About Automation Products Group

Automation Products Group, Inc. (APG) was originally a division of Scientific Technologies, Inc. (STI). In September 2006 Omron Corporation acquired the safety products business of STI, and APG was formed and purchased by the family that founded STI. Although a new company, APG's roots in the sensor business go back to 1971. Located in Logan, UT, APG supplies tailored sensing solutions for measurement applications to process control industries.
