Remote Monitors communicate exclusively via Ethernet.

December 12, 2007 - Suited for hazardous locations, VisuNet RM Series eliminates copper and fiber optic KVM interface technology, while leveraging open network-based Visualization-over-Ethernet technology. VOE technology facilitates operation of up to 32 remote monitoring stations per server, and supports redundant servers, pathways, and hot switchover. Display, keyboard, and mouse can be up to 2 km away from PC in safe area, or be part of full-scale panel PC installed in hazardous location.

Pepperl+Fuchs' VisuNet RM is Process Industry's First Visualization Solution to Communicate Exclusively via Ethernet

Pepperl+Fuchs' VisuNet RM is Process Industry's First Visualization Solution to Communicate Exclusively via Ethernet

Dispenses with proprietary connection techniques, integrates all benefits of a modern network infrastructure based on standard Ethernet components

TWINSBURG, OH - Pepperl+Fuchs introduces VisuNet RM - a new family of remote monitors for use in hazardous locations. VisuNet RM eliminates copper and fiber optic KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) interface technology, while leveraging open network-based Visualization over Ethernet (VOE) technology founded on Microsoft standards. VOE technology facilitates operation of up to 32 remote monitoring stations per server, and even supports redundant servers, pathways and hot switchover. VisuNet RM is available with optional wireless Ethernet as part of Pepperl+Fuchs Systems and Solutions offering.

VisuNet integrates all the benefits of a modern network infrastructure based on standard Ethernet components in simple, remote solutions where the display, keyboard, and mouse are up to 2 km away from the PC in the safe area, or as a full-scale panel PC installed in the hazardous location.

"VisuNet is the process industry's first generation of visualization solutions to communicate exclusively via existing Ethernet TCP/IP network infrastructure, dispensing completely with proprietary connection techniques. VisuNet facilitates flexible connection topologies that are independent of the physical connection because it shares the same connection medium - the Ethernet network," says Brian Alvarado, Product Manager. "As a result, highly popular Ethernet-based network communication can now be effectively employed for PC-based visualization in harsh, industrial process environments such as offshore oil platforms, and pharmaceutical processing," he says.

The VisuNet product family is designed as a component system that adapts to the individual requirements of each process plant. In addition to different display sizes, international keyboard layouts, pointing devices, and mounting options, a series of optional functions are available and can be custom configured to suit specific application needs. The VisuNet RM family has expanded operational temperature range. The family is designed for use in Ex-areas, categories II 2G, II 2D, Class 1 Zone 1, Ghost and NEPSI.

VisuNet's stainless steel cases are modular and can be enhanced with an ergonomic keyboard. A choice of stainless steels ranging from standard 1.4301 (304) to 1.4404 (316L) is available. The surface roughness can likewise be selected down of less than 2 µm. A wide range of accessories can be supplied - from combinable boxes for switches and buttons through handles and an adjusting mechanism for swinging out the keyboard to stainless steel pedestals and brackets for mounting VisuNet devices on the floor, wall or ceiling. The VisuNet locking housing facilitates rapid repair/exchange in the event the 50,000 hour display should fail.
