Strategic Test Announces World's First and Smallest Freescale i.MX27 Processor DIMM Module

Measures only 67.6 x 26 x 4.2 mm. Runs Linux and Windows CE

Woburn, USA - November 23, 2007. Strategic Test has announced the World's smallest Freescale i.MX27 processor-based System on Module (SOM). Called the TX27, it measures just 67.6 x 26 x 4.2 mm (2.6" x 1" x 0.16") and contains an 400 MHz i.MX27 processor coupled with 64 MB mobile DDR-SDRAM (expandable to 128 MByte), 128 MB NAND Flash memory, a wide operating temperature range of -20 degree C to +85 degree C and a 200 pin SODIMM connector.

First shipments are slated to start in Q1 2008. Simultaneously, Strategic Test will start deliveries of the Development Kit-5 that is based on the TX27 module and will be supplied with both Linux 2.6 and Microsoft Windows CE 6.0

The i.MX 27 is derived from the popular i.MX21 processor and based on the ARM926EJ-S(TM) core. The i.MX27 adds a H.264 hardware codec for D1 high resolution video processing, an Ethernet 10/100 MAC, security, plug-and-play connectivity, and more power management features.

Other notable features include:
o USB 2.0 host and device
o LCD controller supporting resolutions to 1024 x 1024 pixels
o camera interface
o three 4-wire UART's
o I2C
o Two SSI/AC97/I2S
o 16-bit Compact Flash and memory interface
o Two 4-wire SDIO
o Keypad 5x5 support
o CSPI
o Universal 1.8V interfaces

The TX27 module accepts an input voltage from various sources:
o 1-cell Li-Ion/Polymer (3.0V to 4.2V)
o 5.0V USB supply or AC wall adapter
o 3.3V

Up to 1A of output current on either the 1.8V or 3.3V power supply outputs of the TX27 module can be used to power the carrier board. This means that in many applications the customer designed product can be powered from the above without needing to add a power supply to their carrier board design.

One other significant advantage for many customers will be that they are able to obtain the i.MX27 design documentation from Freescale without needing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, as is the case with the Marvell PXA320 processor.

Prices for the TX27 and Development Kit-5 will be announced in December.
