Tool Control System suits vehicle fastening operations.

November 23, 2007 - Used in assembly operations, Wireless Tool Control System provides complete control over selection and use of digital torque wrench. Operator logs on to wireless control system, which selects correct socket for particular vehicle. When correct socket has been selected, system transmits details of torque tasks to digital torque wrench. Wrench receives torque requirements and specifications via Bluetooth from Control System and instructs sequence of fastenings to be carried out.

Wireless Tool Control System Eliminates Risk in Critical Vehicle Fastening Operations

In critical vehicle assembly work, it is absolutely essential that not only are the correct torque tools selected for each fastening operation, but also that all joints are tightened to the exact torque. To carry out this work more quickly, more easily and more reliably, Crane Electronics has introduced the new Wireless Tool Control System.

The system provides complete control over the selection and use of a digital torque wrench in assembly operations. It is totally secure and uses wireless connectivity.

At the start of a shift the operator logs-on to the Wireless Control System by using a password or ID badge. The vehicle being assembled is recognised via a VIN barcode or the VIN number itself (Vehicle Identification Number). The system then selects the correct socket to be used for particular applications on that vehicle. Only when the correct socket has been selected, will the Wireless Control System then transmit the details of the torque tasks to the digital torque wrench. To prevent operator error, measurement is only possible if the correct socket is selected. To assist the operator an LED display indicates which socket has to be used.

The digital torque wrench receives the torque requirements and specifications automatically via Bluetooth from the Wireless Control System and instructs a sequence of fastenings to be carried out. It makes the assembly process as simple as possible for the operator, minimising the number of key presses and showing up to date information on how many fastenings still need to be carried out. The digital torque wrench will also recognise if a mistake has been made, such as accidental repeat operation.

The digital torque wrench automatically records its actions and initiates the transmission of the torque readings back to the Wireless Control System. These results can be printed out, saved, analysed and reported as well as being exported to quality control systems.

The system is then ready for the job or vehicle. The versatility of the tool controller and digital wrench is matched by its security - the Wireless Control System will only proceed on to the next stage if it is satisfied with the previous stage of the process.
