Bulkflow Technologies Introduces its Heat Exchanger Technology for Heating or Cooling a Variety of Food Products

CALGARY, ALBERTA, Canada -- Bulkflow Technologies, Inc. introduced its fully-enclosed and totally sealed Bulkflow Heat Exchanger to the food industry that eliminates any concern for dirt or contamination and provides better control of food grade products.

The Bulkflow Heat Exchanger indirectly heats or cools free flowing powder and bulk solids such as sugar or salt. It combines zero air emission, lower energy consumption and lower capital cost with exceptional results. This is because, unlike many other types of bulk solids coolers, the Bulkflow system does not require fans or large volumes of air to operate and lets gravity do the work to greatly reduce power consumption.

The system's static design with no moving parts also assures gentle product handling. Its safe, compact and reliable design makes it easy to integrate with existing equipment, resulting in low installation, maintenance and capital costs. Each application is tailored to meet individual food manufacturing requirements and is easy to integrate with existing equipment.

According to Bulkflow, the high efficiency of the system offers numerous benefits over traditional fluid bed or rotary drum cooling methods and makes the technology "environmentally friendly."

Food industry applications include uniformly cooling salt leaving a drying operation, more uniformly warming salt for stronger pellets and cooling sugar crystals before storage and packaging. In the sugar industry, it can also be installed as a primary or secondary cooler. Both sugar and salt applications are readily adaptable to plant retrofits.

Other applications in the food industry include heating or cooling starch, dextrose, rice, vitamins, cocoa products, corn flour, corn meal or corn germ, coffee, oats or groats, pet and animal food, soybeans, oilseed and wheat.

THE BULKFLOW PROCESS
The Bulkflow Heat Exchanger, a sophisticated combination of the two sciences of indirect heat transfer and the mass flow of bulk solids, is designed for indirect heating or cooling of free flowing powders and bulk solids.

A unique piece of equipment, The Bulkflow Heat Exchanger consists of a series of several closely spaced hollow, fully welded heat exchanger plates. The food product moves slowly by gravity between the plates in mass flow. Cooling or heating media circulates internally between the plates' dimples and counter-current to product flow for higher thermal efficiency. A mass flow discharge feeder controls the product flow rate and regulates throughput.

Other benefits of the technology include modular construction for easy expansion and a compact design that fits into tight spaces. The gentle improved product flow prevents product attrition, the potential for caking in storage and improved packaging.

Bulkflow has more than 250 successful applications in more than 30 countries worldwide, including numerous producers and marketers of salt products in North America and several sugar installations. Outside of the food industry, applications include chemicals, fertilizers, polymers, detergents, catalysts, minerals, oilseeds and biosolids.

ABOUT BULKFLOW TECHNOLOGIES
Bulkflow Technologies Inc., was formed in 1999 but their patented heat exchanger technology was created almost 20 years earlier in 1986 when an engineer at the Cominco Fertilizer plant near Calgary, Alberta Canada, invented a better way to cool granular fertilizer.

With headquarters in Calgary, Bulkflow Technologies distributes its technology through a network of strategically located offices and sales representatives located throughout North America. The company also has subsidiary operations in Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and The United Kingdom to serve the European market. Asia, South America and many other countries are served through local representatives.
