New Release of AMICAS Vision Series PACS Escalates Workflow Automation Capabilities

Personalized workflow management automates and documents radiology communications

BOSTON, Nov. 2 /-- AMICAS, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMCS), a leader in radiology and medical image and information management solutions, today announced that it will launch Vision Series(TM) PACS Version 5.5 at the 2007 Radiological Society of North America annual meeting from November 25 to 30, 2007, in Chicago, IL. AMICAS will be in booth #2583.

Vision Series PACS Version 5.5 introduces major enhancements to the industry leading RealTime Worklist(TM), including personalized workflow management. Also included are extended Vision Watch(TM) reporting capabilities -- including support for remote monitoring -- and new advanced high availability options.

Personalized workflow management makes it possible to create a vast number of custom workflows for everyone involved in the radiology round trip. For the radiologist, this means optimized reading patterns and enhanced communication. For the technologist, this means instantaneous awareness of where patients are in the imaging process. For the referring physician, this means quicker results and better service.

Two examples of personalized workflow management include the ability to manage ED discrepancies and study reservations. The ED workflow ensures that discrepancies can be identified and communicated to ED physicians quickly. The study reservation workflow enables technologists or administrators to assign studies to specific radiologists to read -- instead of keeping those studies in a general "pool."

"The traditional RIS and PACS workflow is very linear, which dictates a finite number of statuses such as 'verify' or 'unread,'" said Rodney Hawkins, vice president of product management at AMICAS. "This linear approach ignores many of the most compelling needs in radiology or requires a third-party system to manage a subset of these needs. We are very excited to offer this comprehensive workflow management capability natively within Vision Series PACS."

"Version 5.5 of AMICAS Vision Series PACS opens up many new possibilities for personalizing workflow," said Brian Duncan, PACS administrator at St. Mary's Hospital of Athens, GA. "AMICAS has expanded their notion of study status so that we can now provide a level of service we never thought possible. For example, we can now solidify ED communication and follow-up and, thus, improve the level of service provided by our radiology department. This helps us close the communications loop with other clinicians while automating and documenting these interactions."

Version 5.5 of AMICAS Vision Series PACS will require clearance from the U.S. Federal Food and Drug Administration. The related filing is under preparation.

AMICAS offers a top-flight image management platform for hospitals and an integrated RIS, PACS, document management, and revenue cycle management solution for ambulatory imaging businesses.

AMICAS, RealTime Worklist, Vision Series, and Vision Watch are trademarks or registered trademarks of AMICAS, Inc. All other company and trademark names are the property of their respective owners.
