FANUC Robotics Introduces New Intelligent LR Mate 200iC/5H 'SCARA Eliminator' Robot

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., Sept. 25, 2007 - FANUC Robotics America, Inc., has introduced its new LR Mate 200iC/5H robot designed especially for small part assembly applications typically handled by SCARA-type robots.

The five-axis, LR Mate 200iC/5H is the latest member of FANUC Robotics' family of lightweight, compact mini-robots, offering 'best in class' wrist load capacity, repeatability, work envelope, and speed.

FANUC Robotics is promoting the benefits of the LR Mate 200iC/5H with a new slogan, 'SCARA Eliminator'. "Our intelligent robots for assembly applications offer manufacturers a competitive edge compared to hard automation, SCARA's or Cartesian robots," said Mark Handelsman, manager of Industry Marketing, FANUC Robotics America, Inc. "A combination of the world's most reliable robots, deepest portfolio of software and controls tools, and the strongest support and integration network help manufacturers maximize profitability."

The intelligent LR Mate 200iC/5H is designed to meet the needs of a variety of industries including electronics, plastics, packaged and consumer goods, machinery, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Its design enhancements and flexibility to quickly adapt to small lot sizes, new styles and other modifications provides manufacturers an affordable solution for small part, flexible production.

"From component manufacturing, to assembly, to pack out of the final product, FANUC Robotics and our integration partners offer the most complete line of articulated robotic solutions to maximize our customers' flexibility and improve their bottom line," added Handelsman.

The LR Mate 200iC/5H robot offers assembly customers a wide range of benefits, including:
- Eliminates need for unnecessary and costly fixed automation
- Ability to design to batch sizes of one by using robots to transfer material versus accumulating conveyors
- Eliminates errors with integrated vision for in-line process verification
- Optimizes overall system throughput with best-in-class robot speed and performance
- Increases system uptime with unmatched reliability and support
- Supports a variety of intelligent functions including: an internal programmable controller (PMC), Ethernet, iRVision (built-in), force sensing, and the iPendant

Ideal for high-speed assembly, the new slim and lightweight robot can be mounted in a variety of positions including floor, tabletop, inside machines, angle and invert, which maximizes flexibility for small and narrow workspaces.

Intelligent Sensors Integrated in the LR Mate 200iC/5H Robot

The FANUC iRVision system, integrated in LR Mate 200iC/5H robot, is a ready-to-use robotic vision package, requiring only a camera and cable - no additional processing hardware. It has a 2D robot guidance tool to accomplish part location, error proofing, and other operations that normally require special sensors or custom fixtures.

The FANUC FS-60 force sensor, integrated in the LR Mate 200iC/5H robot, provides 3D assembly with six degrees of freedom, allowing complex or precise assembly operations.

FANUC Robotics America, Inc. designs, engineers and manufactures industrial robots and robotic systems for a wide range of applications including arc and spot welding, material handling (machine tending, picking, packing, palletizing), material removal, assembly, paint finishing and dispensing. The company also provides application-specific software, controls, vision products, and complete support services. After 25 years of success, FANUC Robotics maintains its position as the leading robotics company in the Americas. A subsidiary of FANUC LTD in Japan, the company has facilities in Chicago; Los Angeles; Charlotte, N.C.; Cincinnati and Toledo, Ohio; Toronto; Montreal; Aguascalientes, Mexico; and Sao Paulo, Brazil. Over 172,000 FANUC robots are installed worldwide. Contact FANUC Robotics at www.fanucrobotics.com or by calling 248-377-7000.
