Space-Conserving Rectifiers promote power supply efficiency.
October 31, 2007 -
Comprised of 7 models, STEALTH(TM) II fast-recovery diodes help power supply designers achieve higher efficiency in minimal space. Speed of reverse recovery, along with soft recovery characteristics, minimize MOSFET switching losses and EMI in continuous-current-mode power factor correction designs. RoHS-compliant product also eliminates need for snubber circuit and is characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with Pb-free reflow requirements.

Fairchild Semiconductor's STEALTH(TM) II Rectifiers Increase Power Supply Efficiency and Reliability While Reducing Space
STEALTH II Boost Diodes Lower Reverse Recovery Losses and EMI in PFC Circuitry
SAN JOSE, Calif.-October 18, 2007-Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) is helping power supply designers achieve higher levels of efficiency in less space with seven new STEALTH II fast-recovery diodes. These STEALTH II rectifiers feature fast reverse recovery and soft recovery characteristics that enable reduced MOSFET switching losses and EMI in continuous-current-mode (CCM) power factor correction (PFC) designs. Alternate solutions provide snappy reverse recovery, but this is at the expense of EMI characteristics. Fairchild's STEALTH II rectifiers feature a low stored charge and soft recovery that minimize ringing and electrical noise in the power switching circuit, which, in turn, reduces overall EMI. By using Fairchild's STEALTH II rectifiers, designers do not need to use a snubber circuit and can reduce the size of the EMI filter-making the overall solution more efficient, compact and less expensive.
Advantages of the STEALTH II diodes:
o Energy efficiency through high speed switching (FFP15S60S: trr Max < 35ns @ IF = 4A) and low forward voltage drop (Vf < 2.6V).
o System reliability attained by soft recovery characteristics (FFP15S60S: tb/ta > 0.9).
o Space-savings resulting from elimination of the snubber circuit and reduced EMI filter size.
Improving the efficiency and the power factor of a power supply is a significant design challenge in the industry. Since today's electronics require a power supply to operate, any aspect of a power supply's design that offers more efficiency can have a positive impact on the environment and far-ranging green ramifications. Fairchild Semiconductor's products are integral to optimizing system power. Fairchild's complete portfolio of products for AC/DC switch mode power supplies reduces energy consumption and minimize our global environmental footprint. From discrete components such as diodes and MOSFETs to Green Fairchild Power Switches (FPS TM), Fairchild's solutions achieve increased efficiency, reduced standby power and support global green initiatives.
The STEALTH II rectifiers utilize lead-free (Pb-free) terminals and have been characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the Pb-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020. All of Fairchild's products are designed to meet the requirements of the European Union's Directive on the restriction of the use of certain substances (RoHS).
