Emerson Enhances 375 Field Communicator for Faster Boot-Up, Longer Battery Life, and Improved Graphical Capability
New release expands FOUNDATION fieldbus functionality and presents diagnostics in trend charts, gauges and process images
AUSTIN, TEXAS (October 17, 2007) - Emerson Process Management announces the release of its 375 Field Communicator 2.0. This major upgrade to the 375 Field Communicator provides significant benefits to both new and existing users by delivering faster and more robust capabilities for configuring and troubleshooting HART® and FOUNDATION fieldbus devices. By decreasing the startup time and increasing the battery life through improved power management, users can be assured that their 375 Field Communicator is always ready for immediate use in the field. Users also gain more in-depth diagnostics for FOUNDATION fieldbus devices and an expanded fieldbus user interface.
With the release of Version 2.0, Emerson introduces an enhanced graphics capability in the 375 Field Communicator. Using enhanced EDDL, the 375 Field Communicator presents diagnostic information in trend charts, gauges, and process images, giving users a consistent graphical experience during configuration and maintenance. EDDL is an international standard defined by IEC 61804-3. It is endorsed by the Fieldbus Foundation, the HART Communication Foundation, and the Profibus Nutzerorganisation (PNO).
Beginning with Version 2.0, Emerson also introduces its Online Licensing capability for the 375 Field Communicator. This complements the existing online upgrade capability where users can download new Device Descriptions. With Online Licensing, users can add new features such as FOUNDATION fieldbus or Graphics over the web, adding powerful new capabilities to their communicator without having to send it away for service.
The 375 Field Communicator remains the only intrinsically-safe communicator that supports every HART and FOUNDATION fieldbus device from all suppliers. The total number of HART and FOUNDATION fieldbus devices supported in the 375 Field Communicator now exceeds 1,100. This single, universal communicator simplifies the work and minimizes the equipment required by field technicians who install and maintain the devices in their plant. The 375 Field Communicator also interfaces to AMS(TM) Suite, the de facto predictive diagnostics application for instruments and valves.
"Emerson's continuing investment in the 375 Field Communicator delivers step change value to users through powerful enhancements," said Craig Llewellyn, president of Emerson Process Management's Asset Optimization division. "No other handheld provides users with the ability to complete maintenance tasks on any HART or FOUNDATION fieldbus device, anywhere in the plant, at any time, while integrating the work with their asset management software."
