esd Electronics Introduces New CAN-ETHERNET Gateway

August 15, 2007 - esd electronics, Inc. announces the introduction of EtherCAN, a CAN-ETHERNET gateway that converts from CAN into ETHERNET to overcome the limited physical length of CAN networks.

Since CAN technology was originally developed for the automotive industry, it has limitations for high-speed data transmission (1 MBit/sec) at distances of over 50 ft. This problem is solved by esd's EtherCAN, an INTERNET-CAN gateway with a NET +50 ARM processor that controls the data transfer between the CAN and ETHERNET, allowing multiple networks to be linked over long distances. EtherCAN comes with its own programming package (ELLSI) for complete customization by the user. Software drivers to access the EtherCAN from a PC are available Windows NT/2000/XPand Linux. Protocols include TCP/IP and Modbus/TCP.

esd's new EtherCAN package includes an ARM-processor NET+50, the ELLSI programming package, a fast (10 Mbit/s and 100 Mbit/s) ETHERNET interface, a CAN interface, CANopen Manager, and a driver to enable PCs to access multiple CAN sites for diagnostic or monitoring purposes. It can also selectively filter the data for optimum process control. In fact, using the integral web server, users can log into the CAN network from anywhere in the world.

As with all of esd electronics' products, the industrial-quality EtherCAN is both cost-effective and reliable, ensuring that customers will have a durable tool for all their CAN-ETHERNET gateway applications. Whether you are in the medical, airplane/aeronautics testing, automotive manufacturing, processing, or test and measurement industries, esd has the solution to your diagnostic or control needs.
