New Low Cost Seismic Switch

eentec, a manufacturer of research seismological and geophysical instruments announces the introduction of a low cost seismic switch, Model SS-3. The seismic switch is designed to trigger upon an earthquake or man-made event and shut down sensitive workstations, motors, pumps, high intensity lighting, or any other equipment that would cause damage by exceeding user selectable accelerations. It can be connected to an elevator emergency operation procedure used in fire alarms (go to nearest floor and open doors), setoff alarms, open emergency exits or actuate any other device or equipment that can be controlled by industrial relays.

The unit is available as a standard switch or can include optional features such as bargraph display that displays maximum acceleration experienced during the event, or internal waveform logging when triggered to store and later analyze the waveform data of the event.

The unit is triaxial; monitoring all three axis, is designed to be low cost, and installed by non-technical personnel. It operates off a standard A/C outlet with an internal backup battery. It can be mounted in any orientation to facilitate the specifics of the installation site to be monitored.
