Portable Magnetic Drill features swivel base.

Measuring 16 3/8 x 7 3/16 x 8 ¼ in., Model HMD904S features drill body-to-magnetic base coupling that provides pivot axis for up to 1 3/8 in. arc of side to side motion, and straightline axis that permits up to 1 3/8 in. of front to back movement. After magnetic base has been engaged, added axes allows operators to fine tune drill position and precisely locate hole center points. Equipped with 7.2 A/450 rpm motor, drill offers capacities from 7/16-1 ½ in. dia and 2 in. depth of cut.

Hougen Debuts Swivel-Base Portable Magnetic Drill
Hougen Manufacturing announces its latest model of portable magnetic drills to its lineup of innovative holemaking products, the new Model HMD904S Swivel Base Portable Magnetic Drill-marking a major performance improvement to the firm's versatile HMD904 model. The 'S' series features a new drill body-to-magnetic base coupling that provides both a pivot axis for up to a 1-1/8" arc of side to side motion and a straightline axis that permits up to 1-3/8" of front to back movement. After the magnetic base has been engaged, the added axes allows operators to fine tune the drill position and precisely locate hole center points. The Hougen unit incorporates a lockdown mechanism that, unlike similarly equipped models, makes releasing and securing the pivot and slide coupling simple, fast and virtually effortless. A single actuation handle with short stroke travel both unlocks and securely retightens the swivel base coupling. The HMD904S is patent pending.
The Swivel Base HMD904S is ideal for applications where hole position accuracy is critical, or for challenging fabrication, maintenance and on-site installation/erection jobs involving horizontal or overhead/inverted drilling where supporting and energizing the magnet while locating the drill can be awkward.
The new HMD904S weighs just 30.5 lbs., measures 16-3/8"H x 7-3/16"W x 8-1/4" long yet provides drilling capacities of from 7/16" up to 1-1/2" (12-38mm) diameter and 2" (50mm) depth of cut. The drill has a motor with an electrical rating of 7.2A, 450 RPM that helps better maintain cutting speeds and feeds for deep holes, large diameter holes and for working with tough, high hardness materials. For versatility the drill also has Hougen's new hex drive arbor which can be easily removed for installation of drill chucks and other Hougen Portable Machine Shop accessories.
The HMD904S Swivel Base features positive slug ejection, rear mounted, accessible controls and a side-to-side reversible feed handle for ease of use. The drill also incorporates Hougen's exclusive safety features to insure a safe work environment-including a no-adjustment safety switch, which shuts down the drill motor if motion of the magnetic base is detected...plus an LED indicator that monitors this sensor and alerts if an unsafe operational condition exists. A two stage power on switch prevents drill rotation unless the magnet has first been engaged, and, in the case of a power interruption, safety circuitry will keep the drill motor off after power is restored until the start button is manually depressed.
The HMD904S uses Hougen's Rotabroach "12,000-Series" Annular Cutters that can improve drilling times by more than two to three times that of conventional holemakers such as twist drills. Because the annular cutters are hollow, there is no center point or "dead zone" that slows the cutting SFM of twist drills, therefore reducing potential feed rates.
With the Rotabroach tools, however, tool SFM is virtually constant so speeds and feeds can be set for optimum drilling rates.
In addition to the HMD904S model drill, Hougen manufactures 14 other models of portable magnetic drills, with hole capacities to 3-1/16" diameter and 3" depth of cut. Other products include Punch-ProTM Portable Electro-hydraulic Hole Punchers, plus annular cutters for a variety of applications, including sheet metal and tubing - for portable fabricating equipment as well as stationary machine tools.
