Sciton Announces the First Tunable Resurfacing Laser for Aesthetic Treatments

PALO ALTO, Calif., Aug. 7 -- Sciton today announced during the American Academy of Dermatology in New York City, the pending availability of the new Contour Tunable Resurfacing Laser (TRL) this fall. The TRL is a significant improvement of the Contour dual-pulse mode laser from Sciton, Inc. (Palo Alto, Calif.) with the ability to precisely adjust ablative depth and thermal coagulation depth for emulating any ablative or nonablative laser on the market.

"The ablative and coagulation zones can be independently adjusted over a large range with each pulse, making the Contour TRL equivalent to anything from an Erbium:YAG laser to an Erbium:YSGG laser to a CO2 laser, or anything in between," said Dale Koop, Ph.D., General Manager at Sciton. "This system eliminates the need for all existing single modality lasers and for the first time will allow doctors to titrate the precise amount of ablation and coagulation needed for each area treated".

CO2 lasers are known for their dramatic results and long recovery times, whereas erbium lasers are more superficial with fast recovery. Now with the Contour TRL, a physician can create a laser that is specific to each patient's treatment needs.

"This is a significant new development for laser resurfacing, and will enable me to achieve the results I want for each of my patients," stated Dr. Jason Pozner a Plastic Surgeon in Boca Raton, FL. "I believe this will greatly expand the capabilities of physicians offering skin rejuvenation."

The very popular ProFractional module, recently introduced by Sciton, can be added to Contour TRL for complete resurfacing and fractional applications. "By adding ProFractional and a broad band light (BBL) with the SkinTyte accessory, physicians can offer their patients unique combinations and treatments with a single system", stated Daniel Negus, Ph.D., President of Sciton.

"Physicians now have access to the entire spectrum of ablative laser modalities for application tailored treatments, and Contour technology is unique in that it enables popular treatments such as MicroLaserPeel, the S.T.A.R. procedure, the Lamellar Peel, Arctic Peel, and some advanced peel methods that are currently in development." Dr. Negus added.

Sciton, located in Palo Alto, California is committed to providing best-in-class laser and light source solutions for medical professionals who want superior durability, performance and value for applications that benefit their patients, their practice, and themselves. SkinTyte, MicroLaserPeel(R), the S.T.A.R.(TM) Procedure, South Beach Peel(TM), Lamellar Peel(TM), Arctic(TM) Peel and ThermaScan(TM) are popular procedures for facial rejuvenation giving patients a more youthful appearance and can only be offered with the Sciton PROFILE(TM) system. Other popular procedures offered by Sciton include hair removal, photo rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction, scar reduction, and acne treatments.
