High-Resolution Graphics Display for Mobile Equipment
(Wooster, OH - www.boschrexroth-us.com) The BODAS-DI3 from Bosch Rexroth features a dynamic high-resolution color display for use in mobile equipment. In addition to the DI3 display, the Rexroth BODAS modular system features robust and compact cameras with great light sensitivity for use in rough work environments. The cameras can be powered directly from the display, which combines two connections for CAN 2.0B and video signals into one connector. The interface can be configured to display video images as overlay images on the BODAS-DI3.
The unit features a jog dial as well as six large, illuminated and configurable function keys for simple and ergonomic control. Switching between the various screens is also very easy.
Ergonomics played an important role in the design of the display. The 640 x 480 pixel color display, featuring low-reflection glass and an integrated sun visor, provides a high resolution (VGA). The dual backlighting ensures good visual contrast so that the screen is easy to read in all operating conditions. Further, an integrated graphics chip makes the 6.5 in. display particularly suitable for displaying dynamic images such as a tachometer. The DI3 is therefore a reasonable replacement for the dashboard as well as being installed as a stand-alone unit in the driver's cab.
The flexibility of the DI3 is also quite evident when it comes to designing the individual displays and menus. Rexroth provides users with the Windows-based configuration software package BODAS-DCT (Display Configuration Tool). The DCT package allows manufacturers of mobile equipment to use a PC to design screens, context menus, and graphical elements for the display without requiring any programming knowledge. User-defined bitmaps such as company logos or vehicle images can also easily be integrated. This makes it very simple to create manufacturer, application and even vehicle-specific display designs.
The DI3 offers an additional advantage when used together with BODAS control units from the Rexroth BODAS modular system. It can be used as a diagnosis and parameterization tool since it communicates with control units via CAN bus. The available functions are the same as those provided by the software BODAS-Service. In many cases it is therefore no longer necessary to connect a PC based service tool for maintenance and service. Password protection prevents unauthorized use of the diagnosis and parameter functions.
The robust display also functions in extreme ambient temperatures (-22 to +185°F) and fulfills requirements with regard to leak tightness (resistance level IP65), shock, vibration, moisture, salt spray and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Special buffering protects the internal real-time clock against interruption of the voltage supply. A basic variant of the Rexroth BODAS-DI3 is also available without interfaces for connecting cameras.
