Aries Electronics Now Provides RoHS-Compliant Sockets for High Pin Count and Non-Standard Components

FRENCHTOWN, N.J., July 2007 - Aries Electronics, an international manufacturer of standard, programmed and custom interconnect products, now offers a series of RoHS-compliant sockets specifically designed for high pin count or off-centered components. The Series 700, 0518 and 0501 sockets provide exceptional flexibility for various applications including socketing DIP devices with non-standard row-to-row dimensions and elevating displays to bring them up to a viewing window.

The RoHS-compliant Series 0501 and 700 strip-line sockets are ideal for mounting liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and other high pin count or off-centered components. These functional socket families feature bifurcated contacts and in particular, the 0501 product line offers several sizes, making it ideal for fitting unique applications, including wire wrap or solder tail pins. The Series 700 is ideal for elevated mounting of LCDs at any height from 0.360" to 2.000" [9.14 mm to 50.80 mm]. An optional spacer is available for both socket series, which enables them to be mounted on 0.300" [7.62 mm], 0.600" [15.24 mm], 0.900" [22.86 mm], 1.100" [27.94 mm] and 1.300" [33.02 mm] centers.

The RoHS-compliant Series 0518 collet sockets, designed to be highly adaptable, can be cut to the specific number of pins desired to fit select applications. In addition, the sockets are available in single or dual rows and can be stacked side-to-side and end-to-end, making them space efficient.

The body material for the three series of sockets is composed of black UL 94-V0 glass-filled 4/6 nylon. Product lines 700 and 0501 socket pins are constructed of Grade A phosphor bronze per QQ-B-750 and the Series X518 is made of brass alloy 360 1.2 hard per UNS C36000 ASTM-B16-00. The operating temperature for these socket families is -67°F to 221°F [-55°C to 105°C] tin and -67°F to 257°F [-55°C to 125°C] gold.

These series of sockets also have diverse contact current ratings, including the Series 700 with 1.5 Amps, Series X518 with 3 Amps and Series 0501 with 1 Amp. In addition, the sockets have various insertion forces; product lines 700 and 518 have an insertion force equaling 110-grams/pin average and a withdrawal force of 75-grams/pin average. The Series X518 has an insertion force equaling 180 grams/pin, a withdrawal force of 90 grams/pin and a normal force equaling 140 grams/pin, based on a 0.018" [.46 mm] diameter test lead.

Aries will continue to offer the standard non-RoHS compliant version of these sockets for customers who require tin/lead plating. Aries Electronics specializes in custom design and production and in addition to the standard products; special platings, sizes and configurations can be furnished, depending on the quantities.

Pricing for a 40 pin single row machined socket starts at $2.00. Delivery is 3 weeks ARO.
