New Wave Research, Inc. Introduces the QuikLaze 200 and BDS1000. High-Power FPD Laser Repair System Sets New Standards for Ruggedness and Turnkey Integration

The QuikLaze 200 dramatically boosts throughput; readily bolts onto industrial gantry systems

Fremont, Calif., July 17, 2007 - New Wave Research, Inc., a leading manufacturer of lasers and laser-based systems for the microelectronics and analytical instrumentation industries, today introduces the QuikLaze 200 and the complimentary BDS1000 industrial microscope. Optimized for high g-force gantry operation, the QuikLaze 200 and BDS1000 combine to create a rugged optomechanical platform that readily withstands 3g - enabling it to travel from location to location faster and with less settling time than competing systems. The laser system can provide more than twice the energy of the previous generation system in most operating modes. This can speed up line cutting and other material processing. As a result, the QuikLaze 200 dramatically boosts throughput - as proven in multiple installations with a custom prototype version of the system. Exceptionally compact, the QuikLaze 200 readily bolts onto industrial high-g gantries, making installation and integration quick, easy and hassle-free. The QuikLaze 200 is ideal for LCD repair, semiconductor failure analysis and light micromachining.

Enhanced optical performance is also achieved with the BDS1000 Beam Delivery System. This ruggedized industrial microscope bolts directly to the QuikLaze 200 creating a fully integrated FPD repair solution - including beam-shaping optics, a high-efficiency beam delivery system and camera port. The BDS1000 provides up to 2x greater optics efficiency over competing systems and features true color optics for superior color accuracy across the spectrum. True color optics lends itself to automation as it provides true-reference imaging without correction and can improve throughput by enabling FPD repair operators to locate and correct low-contrast defects more quickly.

The QuikLaze 200 incorporates all key features of the industry-leading QuikLaze 50ST2. The Advanced Beam Delivery System (ABDS) allows precise cutting on the microscopic level. Selectable repetition rates from single shot to 50-Hz continuous operation facilitate fast throughput. Improved "Tri-lite" beam blending configurations (1064 nm, 532 nm, and 355 nm or 266 nm UV wavelengths) enable users to cut a variety of materials and selectively remove certain materials while leaving others unaffected. A high-speed, high-resolution rotational X-Y shutter ensures accurate cutting control. Other features include quick exchange of DI cartridge with easy-access door, and an option for 3-4x higher laser energy density.

"Process results are directly related to how rigid and stable the optomechanical platform is", said Raymond Ong, product manager, with New Wave Research. "The QuikLaze 200 and BDS1000 are like the SUV version of FPD repair systems - with more power, ruggedness and durability. Integration hassles are minimized. Just bolt the system onto the gantry, and it's set to go."
