Panasonic Unveils New Fixed-Installation DLP Projector

New PT-D4000U Provides Cost-Effective Technologies for Outstanding Brightness, Excellent Picture Quality, High Reliability, and Flexible System Integration

ANAHEIM, Calif., June 21 -- INFOCOMM Booth #4019 -- Panasonic Projector Systems Company, Unit of Panasonic Corporation of North America, today introduced a new, single-chip DLP projector that is optimal for cost- effective, fixed installation. Designed for business conference rooms, game arcades, casinos, restaurants, stores and showrooms, education classrooms, and other fixed installations, the new PT-D4000U projector provides long-lasting brightness, outstanding picture quality, high reliability, and flexible installation for system integrators.

"Our new projector builds upon our popular PT-D3500U model by introducing a new dual-lamp system for increased brightness, as well as enhanced technologies that deliver smoother, more detailed images," said Thomas Zitelli, president of Panasonic Projector Systems Company. "With its high energy efficiency, advanced features and competitive pricing, the PT-D4000U also provides a great ROI for system integrators."

Higher Brightness. Better Picture Quality.

The PT-D4000U projector provides high brightness (4,000 lumens) and a 1600:1 contrast ratio for crisp, high-resolution images in nearly any viewing environment. Panasonic's System Daylight View function makes clear, sharp images possible even in well-lit rooms. To do so, image processing circuit compensates for the loss of color saturation that occurs when light reflects onto the screen from bright surroundings.

The PT-D4000U also boasts several improved features that produce better picture quality. The full 10-bit processing system provides smooth tonal expression, while the IP conversion circuit produces more detailed images. The projector's high performance frame noise reduction feature lowers image graininess while suppressing the noises that are common in fast-action scenes. A 3D Color Management feature helps optimize color saturation, hue and brightness that were not possible with conventional projectors.

The PT-D4000U's progressive cinema scan helps project an accurate image reproduction by automatically detecting a film-based input signal and selecting the optimal progressive processing method. Furthermore, the projector's Dynamic Sharpness Control adjusts waveforms based on the difference in brightness of adjacent pixels to help produce a sharper picture that is relatively unaffected by signal noise.

Reliability

The new projector includes several key performance and reliability features as well. Panasonic-manufactured AC powered lamps are more power-efficient and longer-lasting than conventional DC-powered lamps, creating the redundancy necessary for critical applications. Unlike a DC lamp system, the models' new AC lamp drive circuitry decreases stress on the electrodes and allows them to wear out evenly, thereby preserving brightness for longer periods of time. Lamps can last up to 3,000 hours, depending on the installation environment. The PT-D4000U's dual-lamp system increases brightness and eliminates the need to interrupt a presentation, in the event of a lamp outage. The enhanced liquid-cooling system directly cools the DLP chips and allows the projector to be used in temperatures up to 45°C (113°F), enabling its use in a wider variety of environments. The cooling system design also eliminates the need for the fan to blow air on the DLP, helping protect the DLP chip from dust. A micro-cut filter traps dust particles 10 microns or larger. By capturing 7 times as much dust as conventional filters, it guards against the optical blocks and provides stable operation.

Flexible System Integration

The PT-D4000U also offers several features that make system integration and installation easier and more flexible. A lens-centered symmetrical design provides flexible system layout, eliminating the need for any special considerations when planning the installation site. Also, the horizontal/vertical lens shift assures distortion free images and adds convenience and versatility.

The projectors' new wireless remote control provides a longer transmission capacity of 98 feet. The projector can be controlled remotely using built-in browser software over a LAN connection, or by Web browser that also performs maintenance monitoring and e-mail alert messaging functions. The projector is also compliant with the new PJLink(TM) control over Ethernet protocol. The PT-D4000U offers a host of Panasonic standard features, including direct power off, rear-access for easy lamp replacement, numerous connection terminals, and a one-touch bayonet system for easily changing lenses.

Ecology-Conscious Design

Panasonic works from all angles to minimize environmental impact in the product design, production and delivery processes, and in the performance of the product during its life cycle. The PT-D4000U reflects the following ecological considerations:

-- No halogenated flame retardants are used in the cabinet

-- The packing case and operating manual are made from recycled paper

-- Auto Power save activates standby mode when no signal is input

The Panasonic PT-D4000U projector will be available in Q3 2007 at authorized presentation systems dealers. The projector's MSRP is approximately $6,499.
