3M Introduces a New High Performance Thinsulate Acoustic Insulation

ST. PAUL, Minn., May 9, 2007 - 3M Acoustic Solutions, a global supplier of acoustic solutions for the automotive original equipment market, has announced the introduction of a new Thinsulate(TM) acoustic insulation that's ideal for multiple automotive applications including vehicle door panels, trims, pillars, and trunk liners.

3M's new Thinsulate insulation Type TAI 2099S is an entry level non-woven acoustic absorber that offers three important benefits for designers and engineers: it is lightweight, flexible and easy to handle.

TAI 2099S is significantly lighter in weight than many products of similar thickness but still offers excellent acoustic performance. This efficient, light weight acoustic absorber provides manufacturers with an opportunity to improve fuel economy. Alternatively, the weight savings can be transferred to improve other design areas that will enhance performance or comfort.

Another advantage of TAI 2099S is its ability to be readily die cut, heat sealed, and thermally or ultrasonically bonded to many other substrates. The ability to multilayer cut more than fifteen layers at a time without a separator layer reduces waste streams and provides the opportunity for productivity gains at the tier or converter.

3M's new acoustic insulation has improved tensile properties allowing for increased design options that include suitability for large or small parts, robust handling and multiple attachment choices such as ultrasonic welding, pressure sensitive adhesive, mechanical fasteners or hot melt adhesive.

About 3M Acoustic Solutions
3M Acoustic Solutions offers benchmark high performance materials and support that can help reduce and manage noise around the world. 3M has a wide range of Thinsulate(TM) Acoustic Insulations and damping products that can be used to reduce noise and enhance acoustic performance in many applications. Key markets served include transportation, appliance and electronics.
