Laboratory Instrument characterizes interfering substances.

May 30, 2007 - OptiChallenge Inhibition Panel allows laboratories and manufacturers to identify testing limitations and take appropriate actions while evaluating performance of assay in presence of interfering substances. This 7-member panel provides quantified amounts of commonly recognized and accepted inhibitors and can be used in various ways, including assay validation, instrument evaluation, commercial and in-house assay characterization, and troubleshooting.

AcroMetrix Announces Launch of OptiChallenge Inhibition Panel

BENICIA, Calif., May 2 -- AcroMetrix announced today at the Clinical Virology meeting in Clearwater Florida the launch of the OptiChallenge Inhibition Panel for use in evaluating the performance of an assay in the presence of interfering substances. The seven member panel is the first to provide quantified amounts of commonly recognized and accepted inhibitors. The panel members represent elevated levels of inhibitory substances that can be routinely encountered in the normal patient population.

Interfering substances such as heparin, lipids, bilirubin, and haemolyzed plasma are commonly found in patient samples. At minimal levels, these substances do not obstruct assay results. However, when levels become elevated due to lifestyle or medications, these substances can hinder the amplification of the nucleic acid assays and retard the data reported. U. S studies show that 12.5% of incorrect and delayed test results affect patient health. OptiChallenge Inhibition Panel allows laboratories to identify a testing limitation and take appropriate actions.

"The OptiChallenge Inhibition Panel is a novel new product for a laboratory or manufacturer looking to establish and evaluate the performance of their assay or sample preparation method in the presence of interfering substances," said Matt Trappe, Global Product Manager, "OptiChallenge IP's time savings and flexibility-of-use will be invaluable to the laboratory on its quest to increase quality."

The OptiChallenge Inhibition Panel can be used in a variety of ways, including assay validation, instrument evaluation, commercial and in-house assay characterization, and troubleshooting. This product is for research use only, intended for use when validating FDA approved, modified and in-house assays; troubleshooting problems and setting acceptance standards. The product's consistent and quantified levels of interfering substances provide the laboratory the first external standard for interference characterization.
