InterWorking Labs Announces iSpeedbump, the Bandwidth Manager

Plug-n-play bandwidth manager optimizes network traffic and VoIP for less than $500; Use it in the office or at the ISP co-location facility

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif., April 24 -- InterWorking Labs, developers of network testing, emulation, and optimization products to improve the quality and operation of voice and data networks, today announced iSpeedbump, a plug-n-play bandwidth manager for the office or ISP co-location facility.

iSpeedbump for the Office

iSpeedbump prioritizes network bandwidth in a small office, home, or branch office. Voice traffic gets high priority, so VoIP phone calls are clear with high voice quality. Email, file transfers (back-ups, P2P) get lower priority. By shaping the end-to-end link traffic to provide the right bandwidth, iSpeedbump optimizes mission critical applications.

Easiest to Use and Configure

Conventional bandwidth managers offer an amazing array of options and possibilities once you set up and configure rules and policies.

Unfortunately, most businesses do not have IT staff with the training and expertise to use these products.

Now for the first time, there's an easy-to-use solution with iSpeedbump's plug-n-play bandwidth management. The average user can select one of four office profiles that fits his business. No special expertise or training is required.

"iSpeedbump shapes network traffic to fit business needs," said Karl Auerbach, Chief Technical Officer at InterWorking Labs. "For most businesses this means getting the best quality they can from their VoIP applications; iSpeedbump works with all voice products, including Skype and Vonage."

iSpeedbump for the ISP Co-location Facility (colo)

Many businesses host their websites at a colo, a shared data center providing 24 x7 operations, security, back-up power and HVAC, with a large Internet pipe providing great throughput for worldwide web visitors. These colos invoice via "burstable billing" or "95th percentile billing." This means that 95% of the time, the customer's bandwidth utilization must be below the agreed-upon bandwidth. If traffic levels go above this parameter, then the customer is billed at the next highest level. Thus, a $300-per-month invoice could turn into a $10,000 invoice!

iSpeedbump for the colo meters and monitors network bandwidth for the customer's website to stay within the service level agreement. iSpeedbump slows down the traffic when the website approaches peak bandwidth, and lets it speed up again when network traffic is within the range. Thus, iSpeedbump is an insurance policy against an unplanned, unbudgeted bill from the ISP.

iSpeedbump is available now for $499.
