Fluke ScopeMeter® 125 has Advanced Features for Installing and Troubleshooting Field Buses and Electrical Motors
Rugged tool integrates oscilloscope, true-rms digital multimeter and paperless recorder in a single instrument
EVERETT, Wash. - Fluke Corporation, the global leader in handheld electronic test and measurement technology, today announced the latest addition to the ScopeMeter 120 Series. With advanced features for installing and troubleshooting industrial network buses and electrical industrial machinery, the rugged Fluke ScopeMeter 125 is designed to be an integrated all-purpose tool for service, maintenance and installation (SMI) engineers.
The Fluke 125 ScopeMeter tool works with many industrial networks including AS-I bus, CAN-bus, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus and Ethernet. It includes a bus health test feature, which enables users to quickly determine whether an industrial bus is working and helps identify the cause if it is not. In addition, the instrument can measure power, harmonics, motor winding resistance and motor effective voltage from a variable frequency drive controller, thus eliminating the need for expensive, more specialized test equipment.
Fluke ScopeMeter 120 Series tools integrate oscilloscope, true-RMS digital multimeter and dual-input 'paperless' recorder in one instrument. The ScopeMeter 120 Series instruments are 600 V CAT III safety certified for machinery, instrumentation, control and power systems. The Fluke 125 has all the features of the Fluke 123 and 124 ScopeMeters and in addition to the bus health test, it also takes (Vpwm) voltage measurements of motor drive output, has 0.01 ohm resolution on the 50 ohms range for testing motor windings, and is capable of measuring power and harmonics over a wide frequency range. User-named data setups make for easy use.
Simple good/bad readout for industrial network bus parameters
The bus health test features of the ScopeMeter 125 find defects like bad or missing terminators, bad cable splits, missing links, incorrect line loading, line interrupts, short circuit conditions and reflections.
The instrument continuously acquires the bus signal and compares parameters to industry standard specifications. It displays bus speed and measures signal quality with 'good' or 'bad' indications for parameters like rise- and fall-time, amplitude, bias level, pulse width and distortion. The instrument checks at the hardware (not protocol) level, comparing critical signal parameter to industry standard to ensure proper data communication. An eye-pattern mode allows for a visual check of signal integrity to easily identify anomalies like phase noise, jitter or distortion.
Harmonic analysis and power consumption
The Fluke 125 features extended harmonics analysis of mains waveforms up to the 33rd harmonic. That includes the important 3rd and 5th harmonics, which can be an indicator of overheating in the neutral wire or motor, as well as of flat-topping of the mains voltage from non-linear loads like SMPS units. The wide frequency range covers railway (16.66 Hz) and avionics power generator systems (400 Hz) applications.
Power measurements cover single-phase and balance three-phase, 3-wire systems (Watt, VA, VAR and Power Factor). Unlike power quality analyzers, the instrument is not restricted to 50/60 Hz, and can measure power at the output of motor drives and frequency converters.
The Vpwm measurement capability shows the output voltage of motor drives exactly as the motor perceives it. For electrical motors and combustion engines, the Fluke 125 can indicate revolutions-per-minute (rpm), and can be set up for one or two rotations per pulse, or one rotation per two or four pulses. A 50 ohm resistance range brings excellent 0.01 ohm resolution for checking motor windings and other wiring.
Series automates measurements from industrial systems
The Fluke ScopeMeter 120 Series performs automated measurements on motor, switch and similar signals. The 123 has a 20 MHz bandwidth, while the 124 is a 40 MHz bandwidth instrument that performs more advanced measurements. The 125 is also a 40 MHz instrument but includes features for testing industrial buses and industrial machinery. All incorporate Fluke's unique Connect-and-View to recognize signal patterns, and automatically set up correct triggering.
The Fluke 125 ScopeMeter includes a Power Adapter, test leads, 40 MHz probe, BP120MH battery (up to 7 hours operation) and i400s current clamp. It is available immediately at a US list price of $1,799. The Fluke 125/S ScopeMeter adds FlukeView software, carrying case and OC4USB cable for a US list price of $2,059.
