February 14, 2007 - Taking up 5 x 5.3 ft of floor space, Model GT-10 provides max part swing of 16.25 in. over front apron, with 12.75 in. swing over cross slide. Machine's X-axis provides 6 in. of travel with 2,400 lb of thrust, while Z-axis offers 8 in. of travel with 3,700 lb of thrust. In base configuration, GT-10 has max spindle speed of 3,000 rpm and does not include chuck, hydraulic system, or tool turret. Rated at 7.5 peak hp, vector dual-drive system provides peak torque of 42 lb-ft.

The Haas GT-10 Lathe - Power and Versatility in a Small Footprint


With the current trend toward shorter-run, multiple-op work, small- to medium-sized shops are finding they need a versatile, second-operation machine that can handle a broad range of jobs. The new GT-10 lathe from Haas is designed to meet those needs head-on. It delivers high power and a wide range of speeds in a small-footprint production machine with an equally small price tag.

The compact GT-10 takes up only 5' x 5.3' of floor space, yet offers a generous 10" x 8" maximum capacity, making it the ideal "chucker" lathe for shops where space is at a premium. The machine provides a maximum part swing of 16.25" over the front apron, with a 12.75" swing over the cross slide. The X axis provides 6" of travel with 2,400 lb of thrust, and the Z axis offers 8" of travel with 3,700 lb of thrust. Rapids are 710 ipm in both axes.

In base configuration, the GT-10 has a maximum spindle speed of 3,000 rpm, and does not include a chuck, hydraulic system or tool turret. The Haas-designed, 7.5-hp (peak) vector dual-drive system provides peak torque of 42 ft-lb, and on-the-fly wye-delta switching delivers higher torque and a wide constant-power band for constant surface-speed cuts. The machine's A2-5 spindle nose has a 1.38" bore and accepts a variety of optional through-hole chucks and collets. The cross slide accepts gang-style tooling.

High-productivity options include a pneumatic 5C clamping system (includes 5C spindle nose, rotating union and drawtube), which increases spindle speed to 4,000 rpm, and an 8-position bolt-on style automatic tool turret that holds any combination of 0.75" OD or 1" ID tooling.

Other options include a 2-position quick-change tool posts for 0.75" tools, a high-volume coolant system, user-definable macros, a floppy drive and expanded memory up to 16 MB.
