Avago Technologies Rolls Out New High-Performance Infrared Emitter, Detector and Reflective Proximity Sensor Components

Comprehensive Range of IR Components Target Industrial, High-Speed Communication and Consumer Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 29, 2007 -- Avago Technologies today announced the addition of four new high-performance infrared (IR) sensor component families. The company is a leading supplier of innovative semiconductor solutions for advanced communications, industrial and commercial applications. Avago's ASDL-4xxx, 5xxx and 6xxx are three series of high-performance IR emitter and detector products. Its new APDS-91xx is a family of high-speed reflective proximity sensors.

Avago's new series of IR emitters and detectors can be used in devices such as smoke detectors, IR spotlights for cameras, and remote control devices. Avago's new family of integrated reflective proximity sensors are ideal for use in applications that require high-speed switching for object detection or proximity sensing, such as packaging and assembly equipment, beverage dispensing machines, copiers and printers.

The ASDL series of low-cost IR emitters and detectors incorporates Avago's Aluminum Gallium Arsenide on GaAs (AlGaAs/GaAs) LED technology and are available in T1, T13/4 and Side Look standard packaging and optimized to operate at wavelengths of 870 and 940nm to provide design flexibility. These emitters and detectors provide designers with high reliability and complement Avago's existing line of IR emitter thru-hole T1-3/4 and detector PolyLED packages.

Targeted for high-speed non-contact and fast speed switching industrial and office automation applications, Avago's APDS-91xx series of low-cost integrated reflective sensors incorporates an infrared LED and a phototransistor in a single integrated module that has been designed to operate in low temperature environments. Moreover, its compact design provides detection at distances from 8 mm to 12mm.

The new ASDL series of high-performance IR emitters and detectors further expands Avago's ability to provide customer with a wide range of low-cost IR emitters and detectors in a variety of package options and sizes. Avago's APDS-91xx series is an addition to its existing line of integrated reflective proximity sensors and provides customers with more cost-effective solutions in the 8 mm to 12 mm detection range.

Pricing and Availability
Avago's ASDL series of low-cost IR emitters and detectors are available in both type and reel packages and priced at below $0.20 in moderate volumes. The APDS-91xx series of integrated reflective proximity sensors are priced at below $0.40 in moderate volumes. All products are lead-free and RoHS compliant. Samples and production quantities are available now through Avago's direct sales channel and worldwide distribution partners.

Avago's Infrared and Sensor Products
Avago Technologies offers the industry's broadest portfolio of IrDA transceivers, Interface ICs and discrete emitters and detectors. It is the only company to provide state-of-the-art transceivers and sensor solutions with fully integrated and complete IrDA hardware and software solutions, which help ensure customers achieve maximum application performance and realize the benefits of faster time-to-market and a reduction in system cost.

With its advanced infrared and sensing technology, the company continues to lead the industry to provide faster connectivity and integrated remote control ability while decreasing the overall system power. Catering to both current and emerging applications, Avago's diverse range of infrared solution and precision sensors (Proximity and Ambient Light sensors) are able to significantly improve the user interface in office, industrial, home, financial and entertainment-based systems.

Reputed to provide the best on-time delivery in the industry, Avago Technologies is the world's largest supplier of infrared transceivers, shipping more than 500 million units since releasing its first IrDA-compliant transceiver in 1994.
