Counters use input/output boxes for added capabilities.

January 30, 2007 - Compatible with manual machine tools up to 3 axes, ND 780 DRO uses Model IOB 49 to provide 2 additional functions, depending upon application. When milling application is active, switching functions can be executed, and when turning application is active, IOB 49 makes it possible to machine with constant cutting speed. For machines with up to 6 axes, POSITIP 880 uses IOB 89 for 8 additional switching inputs and 9 switching outputs. Both IOBs are rail-mounted in electrical cabinet of machine.

New IOBs Increase Capabilities Of HEIDENHAIN's Already Multi-Functional DROs

SCHAUMBURG, IL (January 2007) - Prompted by positive input from customers using HEIDENHAIN's highly versatile line of DROs, HEIDENHAIN introduces two new IOBs (input/output boxes) that promise to continue to expand their superior functionality even more. These new IOBs will not only improve the available functions in both HEIDENHAIN's ND 780 and POSITIP 880 DROs, but also add new ones.

Specifically, HEIDENHAIN's new IOB 49 is now available for use with the ND 780 universal DRO, a HEIDENHAIN counter that is compatible with virtually any manual machine tool, including milling, turning, boring and drilling machines up to three axes. With the addition of IOB 49, the ND 780 will now provide two additional functions depending upon application:
o when the milling application is active, switching functions can be executed (this means that, depending on the position display of one or more axes, relays are activated or deactivated for switching on/off servo drives, for example),
o when the turning application is active, the IOB 49 makes it possible to machine with a constant cutting speed (CSS). Depending on the position display of the X axis, the spindle speed is controlled via an analog interface. For this purpose, the gear stages of the lathe can also be transferred and taken into account.

With use of the new IOB 89, functions are increased for HEIDENHAIN's POSITIP 880 counter. This counter is characterized by its highly conversational guidance capabilities for use on machines with up to six axes. With the addition of the IOB 89, eight switching inputs and nine switching outputs have been added, thus enabling the same switching functions as HEIDENHAIN's previously established POSITIP 855 DRO.
Both IOBs are mounted via a standard rail (35 mm) in the electrical cabinet of the machine by using the snap-on clip on its housing. The connecting cables have a maximum length of 15 m with the IOB 49 (for the ND 780) and 10 m with the IOB 89 (for the POSITIP 880).

More information on these IOBs is available by contacting HEIDENHAIN at (847) 490-1191 or HEIDENHAIN CORPORATION, 333 E. State Parkway, Schaumburg, IL 60173. HEIDENHAIN can also be accessed directly via the web site at www.heidenhain.com or e-mail at info@heidenhain.com.
