Self-Locking Nut installs close to thin metal sheet edges.
January 23, 2007 -
Constructed of steel, PEM® (Type CFN) locknuts require only mating hardware to complete final component attachment. Design features integrated nylon (non-metallic) locking element to prevent loosening of mating threaded hardware; broaching knurl to create firm, interference-type fit resistant to rotation; and shoulder to act as positive stop during installation process. RoHS-compliant nuts install in sheets as thin as .036 in. and come in thread sizes No. 4-40 and M3.

PEM Self-Locking Nuts Install Closer to Edges in Thin Metal Sheets
PEM® self-locking nuts offer advantages over standard clinch nuts by enabling permanent installation in even thinner metal sheets and closer to edges. These steel fasteners provide strong, reliable, and reusable locking threads and can serve ideally in thin-metal assemblies where space for hardware may be limited. Only mating hardware is required to complete final component attachment.
Their unique design features include an integrated nylon (non-metallic) locking element to prevent loosening of mating threaded hardware; a broaching knurl to create a firm, interference-type fit resistant to rotation; and a shoulder to act as a positive stop during the installation process.
PEM (Type CFN) locknuts install in sheets as thin as .036"/0.91mm and are available in thread sizes #4-40 and M3. They install easily by inserting the fastener into mounting anvil hole, placing the mounting hole over the shank of the fastener, and (with punch and anvil surfaces parallel) applying enough squeezing force until the shoulder of the fastener contacts the sheet.
