Pricer Ushers in New Era in Retail Display with Dot Matrix

NEW YORK, Jan. 12 // -- Pricer AB, the worldwide leader of electronic display and secure price information systems, today announced that it will unveil its new Dot Matrix Wireless Display at the 2007 National Retail Federation Show in New York on January 15-16. The Dot Matrix Display is an innovative new electronic shelf label (ESL) that wirelessly integrates and displays promotional information along with the pricing of each product. Pricer's launch of Dot Matrix is the first U.S. adaptation and application of the technology to retail shelf display, signaling that the fast-paced ESL landscape is about to change dramatically once again.

ESLs have been gaining popularity around the world by allowing retailers to replace paper price tags with electronic displays that instantly change prices. The visual display of these ESLs is typically made up of preset segments, limiting it primarily to the display of pricing information.

In comparison, Pricer's new Dot Matrix label offers full flexibility of display content because it is embedded with thousands of dots individually controlled by a microprocessor. The very fine pixilation of those dots translates into a rich, textural display with extreme detail. This means the screen can now display just about anything, from brand logos and feature/benefit bullet points to scanable barcodes and time based promotional messages. The technology also allows retailers to refresh information on demand without affecting the battery life because the display does not require energy after being refreshed.

Chain-wide, in-store promotions that used to take millions of dollars and hours of manpower to execute can now be streamlined and instant. In fact, retailers who today spend a considerable portion of their marketing budgets on the production of paper signage can put those funds to use elsewhere within the organization. Retailers also benefit from eye-catching, clutter-free displays, more effective promotions and increased sales.

"These new electronic displays ensure that retail will never again look the same," said Craig Ibsen, President, Pricer Inc. "The original wave of ESLs did away with paper labels at retail, and now, Dot Matrix is a cost- effective marketing tool that virtually eliminates the cost and complexity of managing promotions on the floor by integrating all of the product information on a single display."

Dot Matrix Displays are especially well suited for promotional, end-cap and sale displays and can be combined with Pricer's Continuum line of ESL's for a customized retail solution that allows retailers a full return on investment in as little as 12 months. Retailers can instantly implement pricing and promotional campaigns and track information such as stock levels, last order dates, shipment quantities, and planogram facings.

"With this launch, Pricer once again raises the bar for ESL leadership," Ibsen said. "The technology will not only change the customer experience at retail, but it promises to give those retailers who adopt it a competitive edge."

The Pricer Dot Matrix ESL will be on display at the National Retail Federation Show in the IBM booth 1319.
