Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces New High-Quality Refrigerators and Freezers for Blood Banking Applications

Quality and performance for safe and reliable sample storage

MILFORD, MA., (November 15, 2006) - Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, today unveiled its new range of high performance blood banking refrigerators and plasma freezers. Thermo's new blood refrigerators and plasma freezers offer assured protection for precious samples. Built to withstand the rigors of daily use, Thermo's most advanced and fully-tested blood banking technologies provide efficient temperature control across a range of capacities and sample loads. The combination of durability and features, such as over/under temperature alarms, battery back-up and key lock security, provide worry-free storage for those working in blood centers, clinical research and hospital laboratories.

Thermo refrigerators and plasma freezers are designed to meet the individual equipment needs of each blood banking laboratory. Whether it is for a constant-access unit in a busy routine laboratory, or extensive and reliable long-term storage for use in a blood/tissue bank, all units are built to meet the highest standards. Both blood refrigerators and plasma freezers are designed with robust solid steel construction and are easy to clean, reducing the risk of sample contamination and improving user safety. Additionally, laboratory installation and relocation are simple as all units are mounted on casters.

Thermo's +4 ºC blood banking refrigerators are available in eight models ranging from 130 L to 1500 L. Internal waterproof lighting improves visibility for clear sample selection. Smooth gliding drawers allow for quick sample access. All refrigerators are built with specialized door frame structures and anti-condensing heaters to eliminate the risk of frost formation and further protect samples from deterioration. Thermo's plasma freezers maintain a stable temperature between -20ºC to -45ºC and are available in upright and chest models with capacities ranging from 113 L to 760 L. These freezers feature rapid temperature recovery and pressure equalization, which allow faster cabinet re-entry, to meet the demands of even the busiest of laboratories.

Thermo's refrigerators and plasma freezers incorporate environmentally safe materials and hermetically-sealed cooling systems with CFC- or HFCF-free refrigerants. An intuitive, microprocessor-based, temperature control system with digital display makes operation extremely safe and easy, reducing new-user training to a minimum. Ultra-quiet internal circulation fans maintain environmental conditions and permit rapid temperature recovery, even with frequent inventory access. Such quiet operation also allows the installation of multiple units in a designated workspace. Thermo's cold storage systems offer optimal traceability using a temperature profile chart recorder, vastly improving sample management and QC. Furthermore, all models are highly efficient with programmable defrosting systems and electronic control. Such extensive functionality makes for a truly reliable system preserving valuable samples and improving time- and cost-efficiency.

Thermo's comprehensive blood refrigerators and plasma freezers compliment the company's highly successful portfolio which includes Heraeus®, Sorvall® and Jouan® centrifuges for blood banking applications. For more information, please visit www.thermo.com/cold.
