Ametek Commercial Motors Introduces the Next Generation in Switched Reluctance (SR) Technology: Gen II Infin-A-Tek SR Motor-Blower

KENT, OH, --AMETEK Commercial Motors recently launched the next generation of INFIN-A-TEKŪ family of switched-reluctance (SR) motor-blowers. The GEN II INFIN-A-TEK motor-blower family sets a new standard for performance and reliability for brushless motor-blowers. They incorporate the latest advancements in digital control technology and electric circuitry design along with several material enhancements.

The GEN II INFIN-A-TEK employs a completely new digital speed control that dramatically reduces controller complexity and increases overall reliability. The digital controller incorporates its own AC power supply for speed control with an optional DC control input. The GEN II design also provides variable speed control options to optimize performance for specific applications.

Among the important characteristics of the GEN II's new more efficient design is its cooler operation. The GEN II features three areas of thermal improvement: 1) its innovative design and state-of-the-art components consume substantially less power; 2) its improved circuit board design is based on a two-fold increase of the copper that makes it far more robust; and 3) new mechanical motor efficiencies allow it to run 10% cooler, while providing the same power output as the previous generation of INFIN-A-TEK motor-blowers.

AMETEK's Advanced Engineering Group utilized advanced development techniques and simulation to validate the design improvements incorporated into the GEN II motor-design. The GEN II's cooler running operation and more reliable design make it better suited for elevated thermal and high-vibration environments. The GEN IIs have demonstrated their ability to exceed their intended performance specifications, and every GEN II motor-blower is carefully tested after extensive run-in at elevated temperature to assure reliable operation in specific applications.

"GEN II INFIN-A-TEK motor-blowers overcome the shortcomings of competitive motor-blower products in the marketplace, while offering end users the best features of both series universal and brushless technologies. The GEN II INFIN-A-TEK also fits well within the overall AMETEK brushless motor-blower offerings," notes Denise Schier, Vice President and General Manager of AMETEK Commercial Motors.

The simplicity of the SR's rotating parts allows higher rotational speeds and power input. This translates into greater air performance for a given size without compromising reliability and durability. These added performance capabilities allow the GEN II motor-blower to achieve air performance levels not obtainable in competitive PM brushless motor-blower designs.

INFIN-A-TEK motor-blowers have neither the carbon brushes of series universal motors that limit the motor's life expectancy nor the drive magnets of PM brushless DC motors. The INFIN-A-TEK's microprocessor-based controller requires no carbon brushes, which facilitates the "green" initiatives of many customers. Those brushes, in addition to needing replacement, also produce carbon dust that can affect air quality. Additionally, the extended life of the INFIN-A-TEK motor is enhanced by a multi-phase bearing alignment and a patented enhanced air-seal protection system that is incorporated into each model.

The GEN II INFIN-A-TEK SR motor-blower is available in 5.7"- and 7.2"- diameter tangential bypass and 5.7"- diameter AcustekŪ low-noise peripheral bypass discharge models. There also are 9.1"-diameter high-suction and high-airflow FLO-TEK(TM) tangential bypass models. Models are available for both 120 and 230 volts with one- and two-stage fan systems. The 5.7" and 7.2" models also include low-voltage, direct-current versions.

The GEN II INFIN-A-TEK represents the most advanced brushless motor-blower for vacuum applications currently available in the marketplace.
