VastLane(TM) SiI9034 Transmitter Offers Mid-Range Cost Solution, Supporting Super Audio CD

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Dec. 06 -- Silicon Image, Inc. (NASDAQ:SIMG), a leader in semiconductors for the secure storage, distribution and presentation of high-definition content, today announced the latest addition to its broad line of advanced High-Definition Multimedia Interface(TM) (HDMI(TM)) transmitters for consumer electronics devices. The VastLane(TM) SiI9034, intended for use in set-top boxes, DVD recorders and DVD players, is an HDMI version 1.2 transmitter, supporting Super Audio CD, an audio format offering high fidelity digital audio reproduction.

Silicon Image's SiI9034 transmitter complements the VastLane product line as a mid-range cost solution among HDMI transmitters for consumer electronics products. The product line ranges from the highest-performance SiI1934, supporting HDMI 1.3's Deep Color(TM) feature, to the lowest-cost HDMI PHY chip, the SiI9002. Transmitters in the line are intended for use with home theater products such as DVD players and recorders, Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD players and recorders, and cable, satellite and IP set-top boxes.

The mid-range SiI9034 is an upgrade to the world's best-selling HDMI transmitter, the SiI9030, and a step below the high-end SiI9134. Compared with the SiI9030, the SiI9034 adds support for Super Audio CD.

The SiI9034 is pin-compatible with the SiI9134 Deep Color transmitter, enabling manufacturers to easily convert from HDMI 1.2 to HDMI 1.3 when they choose to do so. Like its predecessor, the SiI9030, the SiI9034 supports 1080p high-definition video output and the DVD-Audio format.

"It's important for us to offer our set-top box and DVD player customers a cost-competitive HDMI 1.2 transmitter to enhance the breadth of our family of transmitters," said Ron Richter, director of HDMI Transmitter and IP Products. "When customers are ready to migrate to HDMI 1.3, the pin design of the SiI9034 makes that process simple."

Availability

The SiI9034 transmitter will be made available with a board starter kit allowing customers to evaluate the product's features and functions. The transmitter also offers manufacturers the option for convenient board upgrade to the pin-compatible HDMI 1.3 SiI9134, and is packaged in a 100-pin TQFP. Samples of the SiI9034 are currently available. Production is planned for early December.
