Performance Technologies Expands Family of Access Solutions with New Quad T1/E1/J1 PCI Express Telecom Adapter

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 31 -- Performance Technologies (NASDAQ:PTIX), a leading developer of communication platforms and systems, today introduced the PCE385, a new quad T1/E1/J1 PCI Express telecom adapter. This newest addition to the company's industry-leading family of access solutions, the PCE385 includes an onboard MPC8280 PowerQUICC II(TM) RISC communications processor and is enabled by Performance Technologies complete suite of software offerings.

The PCE385 is enabled with NexusWare Core(R), Performance Technologies' comprehensive, highly integrated, Linux-based software distribution that provides a comprehensive development, integration and management environment designed to speed time-to-market for system engineers using Performance Technologies' solutions to build packet-based wireless and IP telephony systems. Additionally, Performance Technologies' software suite offers a number of signaling and communications protocols including SIP, SS7 MTP-2, ISDN and WAN connectivity with Frame Relay, HDLC, LAPD, and X.25.

"With the introduction of PCI Express servers as the latest standard for PCI-based solutions, telecom OEMs and integrators will require high density, highly advanced I/O solutions for use in these new servers," said Steven Wigent, access product manager for Performance Technologies. "Coupled with our powerful NexusWare enabling software, the PCE385 continues Performance Technologies' commitment to delivering high density and high-performance access solutions for telecom and IP telephony systems."

The PCE385 is an adaptable platform designed with an onboard MPC8280 PowerQUICC(TM) II RISC communications platform. Combined with NexusWare, the PCE385 operates as a fully programmable communications subsystem capable of intra-chassis communication using the H.100 bus. It is ideally suited for both PSTN and IP telephony systems built on the PCI Express architecture that are capable of handling large volumes of voice circuits for protocol processing or for transfer to the H.100 bus and the PCI Express bus. Application examples include SS7 network elements, wireless infrastructure equipment, media and signaling gateways and telecom switching and routing equipment.

Performance Technologies' complete line of high availability Advanced Managed Platforms provides an alternative to existing commercial and proprietary systems. Configurations include 1Gb/10Gb Ethernet or 10/100/1000 Ethernet switches, comprehensive shelf management, high-performance compute elements that accommodates Linux or Solaris(TM) operating system software and HA middleware. These configurations provide a complete, integrated base platform for system designers looking to develop a wide range of applications, including homeland security and defense, wireless, IMS, and VoIP.
