Masterbatch controls fogging in food packaging film.

November 20, 2006 - Meeting food contact regulations, HYDROCLEAR 2 controls formation of water droplets in packaging using films made of oriented polypropylene and cast polypropylene. Cold fog testing on 30 µm multilayer extruded film containing 5% HYDROCLEAR 2 found that anti-fog agent prevents droplet formation within 15 min after package is placed in refrigerator at 4°C. Anti-fog agent also has hot-fog properties, preventing droplet formation in fresh-food packages containing hot food.

Ampacet Masterbatch Controls Fogging in Oriented and Cast Polypropylene Food Packaging Films

Tarrytown, NY, October 29, 2006 - Ampacet has introduced HYDROCLEAR 2 antifog masterbatch, which controls the formation of water droplets in packaging using films made of oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and cast polypropylene (CPP). The new antifog offers immediate and long-lasting control of droplet formation in packaging for pre-cut salads and other fresh produce, as well as in hot food packaged before it cools down, such as fresh bread and meat cooked in a store.

In reducing water droplet formation, HYDROCLEAR 2 antifog agent preserves film clarity and thus package shelf appeal. It also reduces the contact between water droplets and food to help avoid early spoilage. This masterbatch meets food contact regulations in both U.S. and Europe.

Cold fog testing on a 30µm multilayer extruded film containing 5 percent HYDROCLEAR 2 found that the antifog agent prevents droplet formation within 15 minutes after a package is placed in a refrigerator at 4°C. The tests also showed that the package remained clear of droplets for at least four weeks, even if the film it is made of is three months old. Additional tests show that the antifog agent also has good hot-fog properties, preventing droplet formation in fresh-food packages containing hot food as the contents come to room temperature.
