Specialty Dispersions offer uniformity and stability.
November 7, 2006 -
Specialty Dispersions are available for precious metal processing, chip packaging materials, specialty inks and pastes, and ceramic components. Dispersion uniformity eliminates agglomerates and precisely controls maximum allowable particle size, while rheological stability is achieved using multiple fillers and organic solvents. Dispersions are used in fabrication of microelectronics for makers of cell phones, PC boards, and automotive and medical electronics.

Five Star Technologies Introduces New Category of Specialty Dispersion Products at IMAPS
Five Star Technologies Introduces New Category of Specialty Dispersion Products at IMAPS
Setting a New Standard for Uniformity and Stability, While Boosting Performance
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 18 /-- Five Star Technologies announced today that it has introduced a family of new dispersion products to manufacturers of electronic packages and related materials attending the 39th Annual Symposium of the International Microelectronics And Packaging Society. The new products include dispersions for precious metal processing, chip packaging materials, specialty inks and pastes and ceramic components. The company expects each to find wide, immediate use in the fabrication of microelectronics for makers of cellular phones, PC boards, and automotive and medical electronics. At the same time, it expects its dispersion products to become an enabling technology for next generation RFID, LCD and plasma displays, solar panel buildups and smart sensors.
"Based on early collaboration and testing with industry-leading customers, we believe that Five Star's dispersions will eliminate frustrations currently felt by many in the industry at their inability to consistently produce key packaging features at ever smaller dimensions," says Dana Hankey, Business Director of Electronic Materials for Five Star. "Five Star's dispersions are uniquely uniform and stable for particles at both the micron and nanometer scale."
Customer tests, says Hankey, have demonstrated numerous advantages for Five Star dispersions. These include:
o Dispersion uniformity that eliminates agglomerates and precisely controls maximum allowable particle sizes
o Rheological stability in numerous applications using multiple fillers and organic solvents
o Elimination of multiple processing steps
o No degradation of material purity and, in certain instances, enhancement
o Maintenance of key material features such as morphology and coating integrity
o Ability to match coefficients of thermal expansion with those of surrounding materials.
Taken together, says Hankey, these benefits mean that Five Star's patented technology for creating uniform, stable dispersions fills a missing link in the electronic materials supply chain. "We believe that our new products will noticeably impact performance of electronics assemblies and the consumer products they enable. Five Star dispersions will become an essential underlying technology for multiple applications in a wide variety of markets."
