Symbol Technologies Introduces Premium In-Counter Mini-Slot Scanner for Retail Environments

LS7808 Offers Superior Performance for Enhanced Customer Service

HOLTSVILLE, N.Y., Oct. 3 // -- Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:SBL), The Enterprise Mobility Company(TM), today introduced a new in-counter mini-slot scanner for increased productivity in high-traffic retail environments. Incorporating omni-directional scanning to eliminate the need to orient the bar code for faster and more accurate read rates on even the most poorly printed bar codes, the LS7808 scanner can help improve customer service with reduced checkout times.

"Symbol has been designing, selling and supporting bar code scanners for more than 30 years and was a pioneering developer of Visible Laser Diode (VLD) based horizontal mini-slot scanners," said Bob Sanders, vice president and general manager of Symbol's advanced data capture division. "The new LS7808 scanner builds on this rich heritage with advanced technologies that enable cashiers to focus on customers instead of the products being scanned."

Designed for the most demanding retail environments, the high-performance LS7808 offers hands-free scanning for fast and accurate read rates, with minimal cashier effort. The LS7808 provides intuitive, productivity-enhancing functionality that allows novice and advanced users alike to move customers quickly through checkout and increase customer satisfaction rates at the retail point-of-sale. Symbol's advanced software algorithms allow customers using the LS7808 scanner to quickly and accurately scan one-dimensional (1D) bar codes including those that are damaged, small or poorly printed to help improve operational efficiencies.

For additional productivity, Symbol customers can connect a secondary handheld scanner to the LS7808 for flexibility in scanning large and oversized items at checkout without having to lift them from the shopping cart. With its sleek design to save space on the countertop, the new LS7808 scanner is also available with scratch-proof glass and a stainless steel encasement to prevent scanner damage -- especially in grocery and home improvement environments where continued exposure to cans and other hard metal items can potentially damage a system.

To help customers protect their investment and maintain peak performance, Symbol Global Services offers Service from the Start with Comprehensive Coverage for the LS7808. This unique service goes far beyond normal wear and tear to include accidental damage to exit windows, scan elements and more at no additional charge -- virtually eliminating unforeseen repair expenses. On-site options are also available for maximum response with minimum service interruption.

The Symbol LS7808 mini-slot scanner is currently available to order globally through Symbol partners.
