RELM Introduces 'The Go Box' Rapid Deployment Portable Repeater (RDPR)

Quick Setup of Emergency Communications Networks -

WEST MELBOURNE, Fla., Sept. 26 -- RELM Wireless Corporation (AMEX:RWC) has introduced a rugged new portable repeater in a lightweight, easily transportable, waterproof carrying case, the Rapid Deployment Portable Repeater (RDPR) -- a.k.a. "The Go Box" -- enabling emergency responders to extend their wireless radio communications network, or set up a new network on the move, in a matter of minutes.

"Like other radio innovations from RELM Wireless, development of The Go Box was designed for emergency applications based upon the practical experience of emergency responders in the field who have long used our top- tier high-specification BK Radio products," notes RELM President and Chief Executive Officer David Storey.

"The versatility of The Go Box is a distinguishing feature," says Storey. "It accommodates portable radios from the professional-grade RELM/BK-brand up to our public safety-grade high-spec BK Radio portables, including DPH digital portable radios that are compliant with the APCO Project 25 technical standard.

"Using RDPR repeaters with two BK Radio DPH digital portable radios, for example, one can quickly build-out an interoperable network capable of digital, analog and mixed-mode operations, rapidly establishing new communications or extending a network's reach as needed," Storey explains.

The stand-alone Rapid Deployment Portable Repeater comes standard with 14 Amp/hr. internal battery capability and, with the addition of an optional solar panel, can sustain up to a 30 percent duty cycle during a 24-hour period. Other options for charging the RDPR include adapters for AC wall outlets or for cigarette lighter outlets in vehicles. A plug-and-play link to a BK Radio GMH analog mobile or DMH digital mobile radio can increase RF power output to 50 watts or 100 watts, increasing network reach and audio clarity where and when needed. The rugged weatherproof case for The Go Box also provides room for an optional internal duplexer. The Rapid Deployment Portable Repeater is available with or without new portable radios to complete the package, though any portable radios from RELM Wireless can be plugged in quickly.

About APCO Project 25 (P25)

APCO Project 25 (P25), which requires interoperability among compliant equipment regardless of the manufacturer, was established by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials and is approved by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The shift towards interoperability has gained momentum as a result of the recent communications failures during the Oklahoma City bombings, 9/11 attacks and most recently Hurricane Katrina. RELM was one of the first manufacturers to develop P25-compliant technology.

About RELM Wireless

For nearly six decades, RELM Wireless Corporation has manufactured and marketed high-specification two-way communications equipment for use by public safety professionals and government agencies, as well as radios for use in a wide range of commercial and industrial applications, including disaster recovery.
