Zebra Technologies' New KDU Plus Printing Accessory a Boon for Tighter Spaces & Smaller Budgets

Vernon Hills, Ill., Sept. 11, 2006-Zebra Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: ZBRA), a global leader in on-demand printing solutions for business improvement, introduced today its new Zebra KDU Plus(TM), a keyboard display unit for use with Zebra thermal printers.

Ideal for applications where workspace is limited, the new KDU Plus printing solution works in conjunction with Zebra thermal printers and supplies by allowing users to generate and customize labels utilizing pre-defined formats without the need for a dedicated computer. The standalone accessory works seamlessly with thermal printers running EPL or ZPL printer languages, and has built-in memory to store and transfer files. It features a larger sized keyboard and keys, an enhanced digital display and more auxiliary ports than the previous model, firmware upgradeability and four operational modes. The KDU Plus also simplifies the interface, requiring less training for users, which saves companies time and money.

Available internationally, the Zebra KDU Plus is equally well-equipped to deliver high quality labels, wristbands, tickets and tags with Zebra printers and supplies in discrete applications, across multiple locations, or as distributed printing solutions in high-volume printing environments. The KDU Plus supports European characters, and an extended character overlay is included.

Typical applications where Zebra's KDU Plus is especially convenient and cost-effective include:

· Automotive Service Centers - clear plastic cling labels to remind car owners of their next oil change or tire rotation

· Retail/Food Service - labels listing food ingredients, nutrition details, sell-by date and price

· Event/People Management - visitor/security badges or wristbands for managing guests, visitors in hospitals, offices, schools, concerts, trade shows and other events

· Shipping/Transportation - special-instruction labels for packages (e.g., Fragile, Handle With Care, Heavy)

· Manufacturing and Distribution - part number and quantity on pick-up items in stock area, tool crib applications, shipping dock re-directs, package identification and mailing labels

The Zebra KDU Plus printing solution features an 85-key, full-size QWERTY keyboard, two serial and one PS/2 auxiliary ports and 32 kilobytes of built-in EE-Prom memory. Its enhanced LCD display offers a generous 4 lines x 40 characters, compared with the previous KDU's 2 lines x 20 characters. The unit's cost-effective pricing makes the KDU Plus a highly desirable choice for use with Zebra's high performance tabletop and desktop model printers.
