Chip Conveyor features coolant filtration and separation.

September 19, 2006 - ConSep single-platform chip conveyor/coolant separator removes chips and contaminates to 50 microns in size. Separator has internal chip handling (auger) system, which also handles fines and sediment, and backwash that automatically cycles to indexing filter drum's poly fiber media, making unit maintenance free. Clear access panel enables visual inspection of cleaning process, and filtered coolant is held in holding tank for return to machine tool.

Chip/Coolant Handling System from Mayfran Features Global Compatibility

Mayfran International showcases latest generation of at-the-machine chip separation and coolant recovery designed to meet global requirements for simple integration

Mayfran International continues its strong advancement in coolant handling and chip processing technologies for machine tools and fabricating systems as it demonstrated the ConSep combination chip removal conveyor and coolant filtration/separation at IMTS 2006. The ConSep is a single-platform chip conveyor/coolant separator that removes chips and contaminates to a 50-micron level yet is designed to replace standard machine tool chip conveyors in approximately the same size and footprint requirements. The ConSep has a low profile to fit with a wide range of machine tools and has been made a truly global unit, with a control unit that easily interfaces with international machine tool controls. Its construction meets the specifications and requirements of machine tool builders and users worldwide. The unit is ideal for all types and sizes of chips, including long strings and expansive nests.

At the heart of the ConSep is a simplified single conveyor system that has a patented internal chip handling (auger) system, which also handles fines and sediment. In addition a backwash automatically cycles to the patented indexing filter drum's poly fiber media...combination that makes the unit virtually maintenance free. The pressurized wash system means less downtime for manual cleaning improving the uptime performance of the coolant system. The process can be viewed through a clear access panel for visual inspection and verification of the cleaning action. The filtered coolant is held in a clean coolant holding tank for return to the machine tool. The removal of fines from the fluid results in a less abrasive, gritty coolant flowing back into the machining process, which helps reduce wear on machine components as well as on tools-maintenance is minimized while part tolerances are more easily held.

The ConSep can also be equipped with a pumpback station for directing coolant to independent filtering stations if required, or outfitted with on-board filters, including the Mayfran AT-Cleaner that features mechanical, media-free 10-15 micron level cleaning of coolant when filtration below 50 microns is required. Also available are pre-loading feed shredders for reducing chip and string sizes for easier and safer handling.

Various high-pressure packages are also available with up to 8 gallons per minute flow rates and pressures to 1000 psi. High-pressure systems include electrical controls and may be linked directly to the machine tool's CNC for program-imbedded operational instructions.

The Mayfran IMTS exhibit also included a variety of filtration and chip handling technologies such as the VBU chip wringer for drying chips and recovering residual coolant and the CCC Coolant Control Center for continuous real time in-line monitoring of coolant.

A video of the FastPac Briquetter was shown and to optimize machine tool chip/coolant handling, components of the overhead-installed ViaventŪ centralized system for multi-machine use were demonstrated.
