Innovive Introduces Next-Generation Disposable Rodent Caging System

- World's first fully disposable, single-use irradiated dual HEPA-filtered rodent caging system reduces costs, streamlines vivarium operations, and doubles housing density -

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 5 -- Innovive, Inc., a technology development and manufacturing company, today announced the release of a new generation of its Innovive System(R), the industry's first fully disposable, dual HEPA-filtered rodent caging system.

The Innovive System eliminates washing, sterilization and storage of change-out caging, thus streamlining vivarium operations and freeing up personnel and resources. The Innovive System can reduce the fully-loaded cost of vivarium operations by more than 40 percent, while doubling animal housing density.

The next-generation Innovive System consists of three major components:

- Innocage(R): The world's first single-use, fully disposable cage for housing rodents

- Innorack(R): Lightweight dual HEPA-filtered cage rack that holds 168 Innocage units and offers superior airflow and ergonomic features

- Aquavive(R): Single-use irradiated recyclable water bottle with 330ml capacity

The Innocage does not use heavy, expensive and inconvenient wire-bar lids, so the complete Innocage weighs less than nine ounces, or about 90 percent less than most legacy caging systems. The Innocage is made of virgin PET #1, one of the world's most recycled plastics.

The Innocage's patent-pending design uses thin-walled polymers and unique designs that both maintain security and eliminate chewing. The snap-on top forms an air-tight seal, and a built-in filter allows the cage to breathe when outside the rack, while preventing contaminants from entering the cage. The unique design of the Innocage incorporates an external water bottle (the Aquavive), eliminating the requirement to open cages to check or change water.

Since virtually every existing vivarium already has the staff and infrastructure in place to support a legacy cage system, Innovive has designed its system for easy trial in areas where using legacy systems is not practical, such as in areas not co-located with washing facilities, or where the risk of contamination prevents intermingling certain cages with the larger reuse stream.

Currently, Innovive products are in use in vivariums operated by several major universities and research institutions nationwide including the University of California at San Diego, the University of California at San Francisco, Scripps Institute, New York University, the National Institutes of Health, and Stanford University.

"The Innovive System is designed to meet the changing needs of vivariums worldwide," said Dee Conger, Innovive's CEO. "As the pace of medical research increases, vivariums need better, faster and more cost-effective processes and operations. That's what Innovive is all about."
