Lubrizol Unveils 4 Additive Packages for 4-Stroke Motorcycle Engine Oils
CLEVELAND, OH, July 27, 2006 - The Lubrizol Corporation (NYSE:LZ) has unveiled its Lubrizol 30000 Series additive technology, which allows oil suppliers to offer a formulation tailored to the unique requirements of motorcycle engines. Previously, oil suppliers relied on passenger car motor oils that may not have been suitable for motorcycles with multiple wet plate clutches and that may not have provided adequate gear protection. In addition to being uniquely developed for motorcycle use, Lubrizol's new chemistry meets the new Japanese Automobile Standards Organization (JASO) T903:2006 standard for engine oil for four-stroke, gasoline-powered motorcycles.
Four additive packages, each providing progressively improved performance, comprise the Lubrizol 30000 Series:
Lubrizol 30000 at 7.65% weight + 0.05% weight Lubrizol 1371 delivers API SG performance.
Lubrizol 30000 at 8.5% weight delivers API SJ performance.
Lubrizol 30100 at 8.6% weight delivers API SL performance.
Lubrizol 30200 at 9.4% weight delivers API SM performance.

The JASO T903:2006 standard sets out four categories of motorcycle oils-MA, MA1, MA2 and MB-allowing motorcycle manufacturers to specify oil with the appropriate friction performance for their engines. For example, oils meeting the MA2 grade have higher friction properties than oils meeting MA1. Lubrizol has tested its new additive chemistry in a variety of base oils, and it has delivered higher friction indices than the new MA2 grade demands.
