Miller Electric's Bobcat and Trailblazer Welder/Generators Now Offer Most Horsepower in Their Class

o New, larger horsepower engines offer more welding output for larger diameter wires, faster travel speed and more generator power under heavier loads

o Other enhancements ease maintenance, decrease weld defects

APPLETON, Wis., July 24, 2006-With 23-HP Kohler and 22-HP Robin engine options now available, Miller Electric Mfg. Co.'s Bobcat(TM) and Trailblazer® gas powered welder/generators now feature the most horsepower in their class. The additional horsepower provides stronger welding output for running larger diameter wires and stronger generator power for sudden, heavier loads, such as motor starting.

Other new enhancements include: Miller's exclusive Auto-Crater(TM) feature on the Trailblazers to help eliminate crater-related DC TIG weld defects and a Low-Fuel Shutdown on all diesel models that shuts down the engine before the fuel runs, eliminating the need to re-prime the engine. New maintenance displays include an Oil Change Countdown that clearly shows the time remaining until the next oil change and an engine r.p.m. display on the Trailblazers for easy diagnostics.

Both Bobcats and Trailblazers provide multi-process welding capability (MIG, FCAW, Stick, TIG) with simultaneous generator and welding capabilities. The Trailblazer models have separate generators for welding and auxiliary power so neither circuit affects the other.

More Power, Same Price
"The extra horsepower will allow users to weld faster or increase deposition rates," according to John Leisner, product manager, Miller Electric. "It will be especially important to those who need extra welding power for air carbon arc gouging or running larger diameter wires, or increased generator power for plasma cutting."

The additional power increases the Bobcat 250's and Trailblazers' Accu-Rated(TM) generator power to 10,500 watts of useable peak power. "Accu-Rated" is Miller's standard for measuring generator power. It guarantees that the welder/generator will provide that peak power for a minimum of 30 seconds.

"With 10,500 watts of Accu-Rated power, these models are better able to handle sudden loads, such as motor starting," Leisner said. "Customers who use a Bobcat 250 or Trailblazer as a back-up generator will also benefit from the increased power. There is less chance of tripping a breaker or allowing a voltage drop that could harm motors when an air conditioner or refrigerator starts."

The extra power comes without an increase in price, according to Leisner.

"We can now give the customer more power and capability without adding cost, size or weight," he said.

Auto-Crater Reduces Weld Defects
Along with more power, the Trailblazers will now feature Auto-Crater, Miller's exclusive patent-pending technology designed to eliminate craters when using the DC TIG process. An improperly filled weld crater may crack, leading to weld defects. To avoid craters without using the new technology an operator may have to ease up on a foot pedal at the end of a weld, which isn't always practical in the field, or use a hand control, which adds an extra control wire.

"With Auto-Crater, the operator lifts the torch until there is a visible reduction in current and then moves it back into position," Leisner said. "The Trailblazer will automatically ramp down the current, allowing complete control of the puddle."

Maintenance Becomes Easier
The Bobcat and Trailblazer diesel models now feature a Low Fuel Shutdown, which shuts down the engine before the fuel is gone, eliminating the need for priming the engine.

"When a diesel engine runs dry, it needs to be re-primed, usually requiring a mechanic and down time to get it running again," Leisner said. "The Low Fuel Shutdown feature eliminates that problem, shutting down the engine and displaying a 'No Fuel' message."

An Oil Change Interval Display, which displays the number of hours until the next oil change is due, is now featured on all Bobcat and Trailblazer gas and diesel models. (Previously only available on the Trailblazer 302.)

"The Oil Change Interval Display provides a clear and convenient reminder of the time left to the next oil change," Leisner said. "Maintenance people used to write the hour readings on the oil filter or keep separate records. Now, they can read the information directly on the front panel and eliminate some of the paperwork."

Other displays have been added. An Engine RPM Display is now available on the Trailblazers, eliminating the need for a separate tachometer as a service or diagnostic tool. An hour meter has been added to the Bobcat 3-Phase, 225, 250 and 250 diesel models to track engine hours. The Bobcat 250 and 250 Diesel also now have a fuel gauge on the front panel for easy reading.

All models also have large 12-gallon fuel tanks and high-impact protective armor with covers to protect them on the job site and during transport. Complete product sheets and comparison charts are available on the Miller Web site at MillerWelds.com.

The engine manufacturers separately warrant the engines. All other components are covered by Miller's True-Blue(r) three-year factory warranty For more information or to download a product spec sheet, visit Miller's Web site, call 1-800-4-A-MILLER (800-426-4553), fax 877-327-8132 or write to Miller Electric Mfg.
