Linear Drives offer variety of linear pitch settings.
July 18, 2006 -
Available in 7 sizes, RS Drives achieve linear speeds to 5 fps over distances of 13 ft. Linear pitch may be specified at 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, or 0.5 times shaft diameter, based on thrust requirements, and can be adjusted without changing gears or motor speed. Once specified, pitch is factory-set by inserting poly-based pitch wedges between rolling rings inside drive nut. Pitch wedges hold rolling ring assembly at specific angle relative to shaft on which drive will run.

Adjust linear pitch on positioning drive without changing gears or motor speed
Aston, PA, July 2006 - The Amacoil/Uhing model RS linear drive now offers a wider range of linear pitch settings for improved versatility and functionality in meeting linear motion application requirements. The change to linear pitch requires no re-gearing or adjustment to motor speed. Nor do any other components of the linear motion system have to be changed unlike other types of systems where changing pitch might require the purchase of major new parts such as screws, gearboxes and clutches.
Linear pitch, or the distance moved per shaft revolution, may be specified at 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 or 0.5 times the shaft diameter which is based on thrust requirements. Once specified, pitch is factory-set by inserting poly-based pitch wedges between the "rolling rings" inside the drive nut. The pitch wedges hold the rolling ring assembly at a specific angle relative to the shaft on which the drive will run. This angle determines the drive's linear pitch which will remain constant regardless of motor speed. Modifying an existing RS drive to change linear pitch is an inexpensive (about $60) process in which the pitch wedges are replaced with those appropriate for the desired pitch.
Available in seven sizes, Amacoil/Uhing RS rolling ring linear drives are designed for indexing, measuring, positioning and other processes involving reciprocating, positioning and indexing linear motion. The drives have applications in a variety of automated manufacturing processes in industries including textile, automotive, metrology and CNC machining. Depending on size, RS drives achieve linear speeds of up to 5 feet per second over distances of up to 13 feet. Axial thrust is up to 500 lbs. and repeatable accuracy is to within + 0.0004 inches depending on the type of controls used. The only maintenance required is periodic, light lubrication of the shaft. Since the drive shaft is threadless, its smooth surface remains clean and clog-free without the design and fabrication of a protective bellows assembly. An optional "free-movement" lever permits manual positioning of the nut while the system is stopped. Technical support and service/parts/repairs are available from Amacoil in Aston, PA.
