Whiteboarding system makes purchasing, installing and configuring interactive whiteboards easier
CALGARY, Alberta --- June 7, 2006 --- SMART Technologies Inc. announces the introduction of the SMART Board 600i interactive whiteboard system (600i system), a collaboration focal point for classrooms, training rooms and meeting rooms. The 600i system combines a SMART(TM) Board interactive whiteboard and the new Unifi(TM) projector with built-in audio. Both projector and interactive whiteboard are easily and securely mounted on a wall, so installation time is significantly reduced. The system is one in a series of product releases focused on refining solutions for collaborative learning and meeting environments.
Built into the pen tray of the SMART Board interactive whiteboard is a projector control module that brings together three simple buttons to power up the system, adjust the volume and access the on-screen interface. The 20-watt audio system is built into the projector base, providing clear sound, even to those at the back of the room. Compatible with Microsoft® Windows® or Mac OS X operating systems, SMART Board software 9.5 (included) supports the creation, presentation and management of digital content. A connection module, which can be mounted in any number of positions around the SMART Board interactive whiteboard, provides several readily accessible input and output connections for such devices as a DVD, VCR or document camera. The 600i system can also operate without being connected to a computer, so users can take notes on the interactive whiteboard or write over an image or video from an external source like a document camera or DVD. To save their work, users simply plug in a USB key and save the file as a .pdf, a .jpg or .notebook file.

Features
Unifi projector - Mounted securely to the wall above the SMART Board interactive whiteboard, the Unifi projector incorporates Vikuiti(TM) Super Close Projection technology with XGA native resolution (1024x768 pixels). With a small footprint and practical security features, the Unifi projector optimizes room space while reducing installation time and costs.
Audio system - Included in the wall-mounted Unifi projector body, the audio system has two 20 watt speakers that broadcast high quality audio.
Projector control module - Built into the pen tray of the SMART Board interactive whiteboard is the Power On/Off button for the 600i system, volume control for the audio system and Menu button to access the on-screen interface.
On-screen interface - Users can access the on-screen interface with one button that lets them select from different input sources on the 600i system, control the projector settings and access the Help screens.
Connection module - The connection module allows users to integrate media, such as a VCR, DVD or document camera, into the 600i system. The connection module has several input and output connections, including RGB video (HD15), composite video (RCA), S-video (mini-DIN 4) and two types of audio input/output (2 x RCA and 3.5mm stereo jack).

Pricing and availability
The SMART Board 600i interactive whiteboard system begins shipping in the fall of 2006 at a suggested list price of US$5,599 for the 680i model and US$5,249 for the 660i model. Not-for-profit education institutions in the United States and Canada may qualify for a grant through the SMARTer Kids(TM) Foundation of Canada equivalent to 25 percent of the suggested list price, reducing their net purchase price to US$4,199 for the 680i and US$3,939 for the 660i. Resellers may sell for less and also add shipping charges. The 600i system ships complete with Unifi projector and integrated audio system, a choice of SMART Board 680 or 660 interactive whiteboard, and the latest version of SMART Board software.
