Smiths Medical Develops New Passive Safety Catheter Technology
CARLSBAD, Calif., May 26 / -- Smiths Medical, creator of JELCO® IV Catheter and PROTECTIV® Safety IV Catheter, is advancing passive safety catheter technology through the development of the new ADVANTIV® Safety I.V. Catheter. It combines the preferred safety of an encased needle tip and ease of use of a passive design. ADVANTIV® offers a full 360 degrees of encased needle tip protection, providing a reassuring and confident feeling of safety.
The feature-rich ADVANTIV® Safety I.V. Catheter accommodates top performance and technique flexibility. Its fully-integrated tip protector moves with the catheter hub during placement, gently releases on disconnect, and its patented internal locking mechanism is designed to minimize the chance of accidental needlestick injury. This passive safety catheter has an electropolished V-point needle and low profile that make insertion easy and smooth. Another unique feature is its flexible OCRILON® Polyurethane catheter -- it is firm for insertion, softens in the vein for enhanced patient comfort, and resists kinking.
"ADVANTIV® requires no additional steps to activate its passive safety tip protector, is easy-to-use, and accommodates a wide range of user techniques. Clinicians find ADVANTIV® to have the feel of a conventional catheter, with the added advantage of a passively activated safety system," stated Tom Sutton, Global Marketing Director at Smiths Medical. "Backed by decades of experience developing leading-edge catheter technology, we offer a passive safety catheter that we believe surpasses others currently available. We use an intuitive design that delivers a reassuring and confident feeling of safety with world class quality and performance."
