Honeywell Unveils Next Generation Web Monitoring System for Paper Manufacturers

Honeywell ProWeb Improves Image Quality and Captures Subtle Changes in Process, Particularly in Hard-to-See Areas

PHOENIX, Apr. XX, 2006 - Honeywell (NYSE:HON) today announced the launch of Honeywell's new ProWeb, the next generation of camera-based web monitoring technology, for newsprint, fine paper producers and printing houses. ProWeb's new software and hardware features provide a real-time window into the cause of paper breaks, enabling the mill to improve machine uptime, process stability and product quality.

"ProWeb is ideal for root cause analysis of sheet breaks, product irregularities, process variation and other events that affect machine uptime," said Ray Shead, director of marketing for the Pulp, Paper and Printing markets. "Finding the real cause of the problem helps to troubleshoot and eliminate future occurrences. Furthermore, the faster a problem is identified and fixed, the higher the mill's productivity."

ProWeb records the moving paper web and processes and analyzes the images in real time. This next generation system includes a new Video Recording and Analyzing Board (VRAB), which supports two cameras per card. The VRAB is equipped with the latest in Digital Signal Processor (DSP) technology as well as a powerful Central Processing Unit (CPU) for performing even more complex, real-time analysis of video.

New analysis functions include web tension measurement and an embedded Process Vision Toolkit (PVT) covering Region of Interest, Web Release Angle and Edge Squirt Analysis. Server CPU's handle the data storage, presentation layer, communication links and non real-time analysis. The improved processing power of the system enables Honeywell to run all current standard analysis packages and optional PVT analysis packages within the same server.

In addition to features, such as Region of Interest Triggering, Real Time Break analysis and Web Release Angle measurement, ProWeb can also support high frame rate, color, pinhole and next generation high-speed, Gigabit Ethernet cameras. The addition of color cameras will enable manufacturers to trace machine runnability problems when used in correct locations at the machine. High frame rate cameras enable 100% analysis of narrow locations such as nip areas or other visually limited zones.

Furthermore, increased sensitivity of the high speed and standard cameras gives improved image quality and can capture subtle changes in product or process. Pinhole cameras can also be installed inside a very dirty area of the machine, or into locations where it was not possible to install a camera before, enabling visibility into new regions. Patented PerfectWash technology within the system also helps keep the cameras cleaner. Cameras and illumination are also selected to provide the best possible image quality at any given location in the production line.

"ProWeb is the industry's most technologically advanced solution and is fully backwards compatible allowing current Honeywell customers to upgrade their existing system without having to replace the entire infrastructure," said Paul Orzeske, vice president and general manager of Honeywell Process Solutions, EMEA. "Honeywell also has a strong global support and services network with 24/7 factory backup, so we're able to provide the right support and advice for all our customers."

New cabling types are also supported with Honeywell ProWeb, including standard CAT5/5e/6-cabling, fiber optic cabling as well as wireless camera solutions.
